View Full Version : Missing pw...

Early today an odd series of rapid fire power outages caused a catastrophic system failure and I had to do an XP "system recovery" and lost all my computer's data. Fortunately almost everything was backed up properly and I've got nearly everything restored. (but it HAS been a difficult day :) )

One item seems to have escaped me. I password protected my stats folder automagically and that one password seems to be missing. I do have access to my CNC, FTP, email, and these forums... I checked the "automagically" tutorial but didn't see a way out of this fix... Any suggestions?

Andi

I will be redoing other minor settings for days... ~#
I have yet to recover the attbi mail passwords (which I don't use much anyway)so email has to go to anything at andilinks.com. <edit> all pw's recovered now </edit>

Try This:

Navigate to your /www/ directory within the file manager of your CNC.

Check the box next to the /stats/ directory.

Click on the "Password Protect" button at the bottom of the page within the button menu.

Click on the "Change Password" link.

I followed all the steps and was able to submit the new password, but the new password is rejected. That is, it is accepted when submitted, but rejected when trying to open the url.

I repeated this twice just to be sure...

Fortunately it's not something I need right away.

I just tested it within your account and everything appears to be working as it should. Remember the password and the username are CaSe SenSitiVe.

Since I did change the password you'll want to go through the steps again to change it to something you know rather than something I know ;)

- I wont tell. I can't tell. It just wouldn't be right to tell!

Andi

Hope you don't mind me butting in to recommend a UPS between your system and the power company. My APC Backup-UPS Pro 650 has saved me more times than I can remember (just yesterday, in fact -- the lights went out (several times), but my PC just hummed along without a hiccup).

... and pop for the extra little serial cable so your computer can monitor the power state and shut itself down gracefully if the mains go down and stay down.
