Has anyone ever heard of restaurants run by Dick Clark Productions (e.g. American Bandstand)? Well, it seems that they are wanting to replace their current music setup, consisting of 386's controlling CD changers, with something new. They need a sort of Virtual DJ http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif, and I recieved a phone call from them. They can't wait for my release of VDJ Pro, which I hadn't even started on until after they called me yesterday.

Anyway, I've never even heard of them until he called, and I checked out their web site. I was just wondering how big this chain is, and if anyone has ever been to one (I don't know what the restaurant is called, but it has the whole AB theme with 90's music).

Thanks http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif I just hope that once VDJ Pro is done it is acceptable. When I described it to the guy that called me he sounded very enthusiastic. So hopefully everything goes ok with it. It's now my #1 priority - coding. But I love coding anyway http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

He said that even if the company doesn't use Pro, he's personally going to use VDJ for personal use because he likes it.

I felt stupid on the phone because he called at like noon-thirty, and my mom had to wake me up! I don't usually sleep in, but I was up late. So I was trying to wake up and talk and sound like I knew what I was talking about all at the same time http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

But I think he was impressed nonetheless. To me, the best part will be if I get permission to put their logo on my site. I want it to say "Dick Clark Productions uses VDJ Pro", or something like that. I'll just leave out the part that it's only in the restaurants (am I spelling that right?).

BTW, Dick Clark Productions is hosting the Grammy awards or something like that (I never watch TV). So they are still big I guess. My mom says they have a part in the Donnie and Marie show (who?). I just know that I used to watch Bloopers http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Oh, no! It's back.....the......rambling!! Make it stop!!!:O

hehehe ya don't know who Dick Clark is?? http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
Man we're talking big time for ya there -
Congradulations!!
Dick Clark is a major radio/music personality - the guy who does the top 40 countdowns and New Years specials from NY and all that stuff He's been around for ages http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
Not sure how big the restuarant chain itself is but Dick Clark is a big time name in and off itself http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
ACutally its rwally refreshing to meet someone else who is kinda oblivious to that stuff - we dont watch tv hardly cept the news and some prime time shows and we never watch stupid award shows and pagents and I cant stand top 40 music anyways - so I'm pretty clueless - about some of the "mainstream" stuff as well I dont really care - but since you like might be doing some work for em you might wanna bone up on your Dick Clark knowledge hehehe http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
Wow man thats a pretty big break!

Maybe his 5-year-old son showed him your "freeware" version and conviced papa to make it available all over the world http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Greetings from someone who congratulates you

Let me clarify this: I know who Dick Clark is - I was asking if anyone had ever heard of the restaurant chain http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

It's not Dick Clark Productions itself that wants the program, just the restaurant part. And there's only a small handful of them.

And I didn't say I've never watched TV, I just haven't watched more than a couple of hours a month for the last 2 or 3 years. I used to watch it all the time, then the internet sucked me in and took over...

You make it sound like I'm 12 years old (23 actually). Although I didn't know who Donnie and Marie were until my mom started watching the show that they do now (it sucks).

Wow...sounds like a great product...when you're done creating it for this restaurant you can market it to many bars/lounges that don't have hired D.J.s but still want music for the clientele.... http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Endless marketing for this which is $$$ in your pocket on such a fabulous creation...

I wish you much luck and success...

Thanks for the encouragement. I think that I'm going to only work on VDJ Pro and say to hell with the shareware VDJ. And there will be NO demo copy of Pro.

I did a little searching at some known sites - after the crack from the other day - and there's about 10 different registration numbers posted and 2 key generators for VDJ. I'm done with shareware. I'm just going to concentrate my efforts into VDJ Pro and make it a pay up front thing. Or just leave out certain features (like don't compile them in).

I may even go back to cracking shareware myself. It's so easy, and hell, if they can crack mine, I can crack theirs.

I'm not even going to bother trying to get the cracks removed - if I know of 10, there's probably 100 more. It does show that my program is liked, but that's not putting money in my pocket. It's taking it away.

So VDJ is officially discontinued. For good. No more shareware. SFE Inc is all about VDJ Pro now, on a per-order basis.

I'm just glad I got that call from Dick Clark Productions, or I would have called it quits altogether today. I don't know what made me start searching (maybe the thousands of downloads and very few registrations), but I did and I'm not happy. VDJ is now abandonware.

Oh, one of the reg #'s is a registered user, too. I know his address, too...

I think I need some sleep.
