I finally launched the new http://www.curvemag.com ! The site basically runs itself now. There are still some little tweaks here and there, but it is so exciting to finally have the new site up and running. This has been a year in the making! The site is running on LinksSQL from Gossamer-Threads (http://www.gossamer-threads.com) (with no major code modifications, only template changes and some globals)

I want to thank the Deb and Terra at Futurequest for having the best **** hosting company, and Kitchin for the javacript popups and Dave for the random image script. (And anyone else I am forgetting right now)

We also partnered with a company to provide personals and our members seem to really like em!

So, I will be tweaking little things here and there, but it is LIVE.

Thanks everyone for your help in making this happen. :):)

Congratulations Evie! I know you have been working hard.

When I get a chance I'll modify the random image script so you can pass the image directory as a command line parameter to allow you to have more than one random image per website.

I'm also having an ongoing discussion with the script maintainers about just what random really means. <grin>

Good for you, it's been obvious how much work you've been pouring into the redesign :)! "Done" feels good, huh??

haha. I have been getting lots of feedback about the site being too wide. So I am working on the width thingy now! so you may see some abnormalities! It will be there soon. ARG. I should have waited to post this thread! %)

done. :)

yep. feels good. But I usually only have that feeling for a day or so, then I start to see all the things I want to fix. But for today, I am done. :)

The site looks nice, and is well organized.

The only (slight) suggestion that you might want to consider is to change the scroll bar color for your discussion page to match the rest of the site. (Or change the colors of the other pages to match the discussion page.)

It's a continuity thing.

Ya know, I cannot see the darn scroll bar issue. I was getting feedback from my members of the bbs that the scroll bar had dissapeared, but no matter what browser I use, I don't see it. I changed the CSS for the scrollbar, but I can't even see the results of it! I am using a mac, but I also have virtual PC, and I look in IE and Netscape and don't see it.

Does the scrollbar in the message board look good? Cause I can add the same CSS stylesheet info to the rest of the site, pretty easily.

Well....it DOES complement the menu bar color well.

But (IMHO) the color of the menu bar could be better. ~# Unless the color of the menu bar has some relation to the magazine or somethin', perhaps a color like: FFFFCC kinda a yellow-beige (http://gotomy.com/color.html) would be nicer.

Not to me. I don't like the scroll bar - it's very distracting. The color scheme that works so well on the site's main pages, doesn't seem to work on the board.

Off task a bit: I'm of the opinion that the scroll bar is part of the browser and thus should belong to the browsee - me!

They were all complaining like babies that the scrollbar had dissapeared and they could barely fine it. I might just make it a really light grey or something. Gotta run for today.

Anyway. Thanks for your feedback. :)

I took the style for the scrollbar off of the stylesheet. I think what had happened was that vB has a deafult style for the scrollbar and when I changed the colors of my boards, it turned out to be white. Then, not knowing, I changed it to another color. When I was out during the day today, I realized that I could probably just take that out of the stylesheet and let the user define it, like the rest of my site. Please do let me know if this is better, as my browsers don't let me see the scrollbar changes.

Thanks.

Evie -

The scrollbars look fine in my IE6 on Win98SE. They work on all of the pages including the discussion forum.

All of the colors match (they are my browser's default values).

Evoir,

The site looks fabulous. What is the hack you used to separate the responses on the message forums? I really like that.

Evie

Did you get the VB user database inetegrated with Links SQL? Does the plugin on the Gossamer web site work OK?

Hey John,

I did not, because I don't want my users logging into LSQL. Rather, only me and my staff will be adding "Links". I am using a classified plugin by Mel, that's cool. It has expire features.

The copyright on all your pages says 2000.

TVB

It doesn't say 2000 anymore.

yeah, after I hit send that synapse fired and I saw the joke. I figured making it go away by backspacing over all the letters would look weird. :P

One functional suggestion is the user buttons on the message forums. The vbulletin default ones look really out of place and awkward. I'm not sure why you have them there since you have most of the functional ones right below them. Otherwise it looks good. I really like the way the thread breaks out into separate boxes. Would you please share the hack for it?

The vB buttons are there because I am lazy. I used to have text links, but the site started to look like a page of text links, so I just threw up the buttons. I am not so good at designing buttons. :D

In terms of the threads breaking out into seperate boxes, that is just an edit of postbit template (at least, I think it is postbit. I just re-arranged the stuff, nested a table within a table and whalla.... seperate posts. :)

Thanks again for looking at it. This site is my baby.

I just stare at the wall and think about what I want the button to look like and then do the best I can in GIMP under Linux.

I know how to make them, and have made them in the past, but I am not so good at making them really beautiful. My favorite forum buttons are from gforum. I think they are the sleek-est.
