View Full Version : Subject of EZMLM confirmation emails

Hello,

I've read the FAQ about the fact that the subject of EZMLM subscription confirmation emails is not customizable for each mailing list, and is currently stuck at 'ezmlm response' which means absolutely nothing to subscribers and could well be mistaken for junk mail and deleted. I understand this is programmed into the core of the code, but would it really be more than a one-minute job to change this to something more meaningful such as 'Mailing list', or even better, to change it to 'Mailing list: $name_of_mailing_list'?

Or are the source codes for EZMLM not available?

Regards,
Darian

That is a great idea! My sign-ups have dropped considerably since I started using the EZMLM list. Not all bad, because I don't want a million people on it, but I think people might think it's spam too - I probably would.

I think that would be great. Since I started tracking whether or not people requested to be signed up to my mailing list, I've had two or three subscribers -- but nary a one has actually made it through the confirmation stage. Based on earlier suggestions, I've reduced the verbiage in the default response, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

First, please let me say - great job on updating the ezmlm subject situation. This does make a ton of difference. Thank you.

Now, I know how this next part sounds because - I basically got it this morning when I told a client the great news about the subject line - he said "but what about this and that and this" with no thank you, just more complaints.

So, I figure I will send some comments/feedback to you in case it is an easy fix. I think many would agree that the text could be improved. If this is something that can't be done or that just won't be done - thats fine - feel free to ignore this message - I just wanted to add it to the discussion.

These are my clients concerns (if you have good answers let me know so I can forward them to him):

1. Why can't it just say "thanks for subscribing" why say "this is the ezmlm program"?
2. Why can it just say "I am managing the X mailing list rather than that long thing?
3. Why do we need the 2nd email - how but just saying, "if you received this in error, click here to unsubscribe"
4. The stuff after that is all just confusing and makes the email too long - can't we just have a link to a page on the site and put all of those directions to subscribe, unsubscribe, ect there?
5. If we need to keep it, can it be a smaller text and separated more distinctly from the other stuff so t is obvious that it is a footer?
6. Finally the whole thing about "god@heavan" is confusing and completely unneccesary - anyone who has read this far and understands what the whole paragraph even means will have figured out the more obvious ways to subscribe to the list.
7. Also the "god@heavan" thing projects a little bit of a religious spin and I would rather make sure not to offend any subscribers if possible.

Now, I understand that some of the answers are - we just can't do that, but I just figured I may as well send it all.

Thanks for your time and I apologize if this message seems like the "give an inch and they'll ask for a mile" thing.
