View Full Version : Email isn't working again?

I'm sorry, but...I think my email isn't working again???

I started to wonder, because I haven't gotten any email in a few hours. So, finally, I just sent myself a test message, and it didn't come through.

Is this because they are working on the .qmail processor type stuff??? I have a global filter on my accounts. Maybe, since they've disabled the filters on my account, this is why my mail isn't coming through???

Sheila.... Bruce is looking at your account now.... He'll let you know something when he knows...

Sheila, your email is working again (tested personally). The problem was in the filter processing framework. The fix introduced to make it deal with processors properly introduced a problem dealing with plain filters.

Thanks, Bruce. I disabled the (simple) Global Filter and sent myself another test email, and it came through immediately. I guess the other mails will show up eventually, when delivery is re-attempted.

I suppose when all the simple-filtering/processing problems are sorted out, there will be an announcement, so that we will know that we can turn those things back on again.

Sorry this is causing so many problems. :(

Sheila, unfortunately the bug in the filtering system did in fact cause a loss of mail. Any mail that was sent during this time is lost...

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We will in fact post an announcement as soon as we can say for sure that the filtering is fully functional (we're still working out a couple of minor glitches).

Ackh! Lost MAIL! (clutches her chest, breathes rapidly and shallowly, stumbles...)

Well, I guess I'll just have to let people know to re-send. :\

I can't wait until this is all working in the usual, superlative FutureQuest style. (Of course, I'm sure that goes at least ten or twenty times for you guys and gals...)

Just another datapoint:

I can receive email just fine, but for the last several hours (at least) can not send it through mail.ethericarts.com. I changed OutlookExpress5 to use Outgoing Mail Server Authentication with my regular account password, but still no dice.

The message is immediately bounced back with the message:

"Hi. This is the qmail-send program at unity.futurequest.net.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<kmoulton@nyc.rr.com'>:
Sorry, I couldn't find any host named nyc.rr.com'. (#5.1.2)"

Sorry if I'm just doing something stupid! I'm able to send to the rr address through a different account, so it's clearly getting stopped at FQ's end.

best,
Squillo

<kmoulton@nyc.rr.com'>:
Sorry, I couldn't find any host named nyc.rr.com'. (#5.1.2)" Look very carefully at the address that is causing the error...

kmoulton@nyc.rr.com'
vs.
kmoulton@nyc.rr.com

Notice the single quote ( ' ) after .com that's probably what is causing that error and would have nothing to do with the email system outside of confirming that it is erroring correctly :)

Let us know if the above does not solve the problem.

D o o O O H ! ! !

Of course that was impossible to occur, because the address is entered automatically from the address book... But lo, I check the address book and there is an extra defective address entered somehow. Arrrrgh.
Love the new CNC.

best!

My attempt at getting a POP mailbox working, for the first time, is not meeting with success. Thankfully, it's not critical, but I do want to get this to the point that when I need it it actually works. :)

Vital stats:
1 pop box set up for paulkroll.com, login results in ERR Authentication Failed in MS Outlook Express 5.

box is "myprecious", password is all lower case/digits.

Outlook is set to point at pop.paulkroll.com & mail.paulkroll.com, outgoing set to My Server Requires Auth and "User same as Incoming".

Catch-All forwarding for paulkroll.com is off.

A test e-mail is sitting in the myprecious box. (CNC confirms there's a message there.)

Am I missing something?

LOL! I just did a quick search online looking for Outlook 5 Details (I do not use Outlook so I'm of little help there) and found this: SYMPTOMS
========

Authentication failed while connecting to the mail server.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur if Internet Mail is not configured correctly.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this behavior, configure Internet Mail correctly. I guess that should solve your problem... please proceed accordingly :P

-------

Are you receiving an error when trying to check your email (without trying to send)? The error you are showing seems like it would be caused by sending and not receiving...

Your email account is working fine, so it is a config error (as the above FAQ pointed out quite frankly lol) but I'm not positive what may be configured wrong since I'm not able to see the client itself...

Let me know on the receiving part ...

<EDIT> Justin just thawked me upside the head with a hard pillow!
To quote him:

<Justin> sending will give, specifically, an error with the word "rcpthosts" in it

<Justin> receive (POP login) will say Authentication Error

</EDIT>

Terra told me to add some color to this thread. I don't know what that means, but I rather like blue myself.

I guess if I'm posting I'll contribute what I can. The error implies a password issue. This means you are either mis-typing your password or username.

Remember -- usernames are lowercase only. If you provided it in CAPS the CNC forces it lowercase. And your account is on a dedicated IP, so don't use any VMIP prefix.

That should work. If you still have trouble, try using the POP troubleshooter within your CNC (which has a couple minor improvements as of today) and let us know what it says...

Even when told to just receive, that's what I get. :(

Outlook Express 5.00.2615.200
POP3 Log started at 12/23/2001 00:16:01
POP3: 00:16:02 [rx] +OK
POP3: 00:16:02 [tx] USER myprecious
POP3: 00:16:02 [rx] +OK
POP3: 00:16:02 [tx] PASS *******
POP3: 00:16:02 [rx] -ERR Authentication failed

So thanks Justin. :)

Still no idea. I tried Hotmail's pop reader, and it comes right back with "POP Account Failed: Authentication failed (13)"

The server just sits there and mocks me. :\
EDIT: Pop troubleshooter ALSO won't let me in... and I'm absolutely positive I'm not typing the password wrong THIS many times, and I have gone back and Changed Password to be SURE I didn't have caps lock or anything.

I'd have thought Terra could crack MD5 using only a radiator and three sticks of chewing gum. :)

E-mail on its way. I'm hoping if it's something I've done, it's only mildly embarrassing. :ididthat:

LOL!

For what it's worth... TeRRa is in your account fixing the problem on our end... once it is fixed I will let you know what you did(n't) do wrong in an effort to embarrass you more than we have ourselves this past 48 hours :)

Deb

Hello FutureQuest support,

I can't download my email. When I check my Pop3 connection in CNC I got the following:

<Client> Logging into pop.batronix.com...
<Server> +OK
<Client> USER xbatronix-andre
<Server> +OK
<Client> PASS ********
<Server> -ERR Authentication failed

Can you help?

Sincerely,

Andre Bauer

Some users of our domain, dillingmechanical.com are getting prompted for their POP3 password when they check their email. Both users solved the problem be re-entering their password and trying again (I know that having them re-enter their password doesn't really change anything as them getting rejected - because they had the correct password the first time)

I will send the acct details to you in an email

Good Morning Andre and Shawn,

We are looking into both of these problems at this time and will advise as soon as a resolution is reached.

Thanks for your patience and we do apologize for any inconvenience that this may be causing,
Bob

Hello again Andre,

Would you please check your POP trouble shooter once again as all appears to be working properly at this time.

I am unable to check your Shell as it appears you may have changed that access password, however in checking a newly created (and now deleted) test POP account the trouble shooter did return a valid normal response.

Thanks, again,
Bob

Grr.... I always have problems with email with Outlook. I don't think this is a related problem, but could somebody tell me what options they're choosing for Outlook?

With the sneakydave.com account, it can receive mail, but it can't send mail through Outlook Express, version 5.5

I've tried all the different settings, but whenever I send mail, it looks forever with "Finding host...", then it gives me the error:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.sneakydave.com', Server: 'mail.sneakydave.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10051, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

And here are the settings I have in place...
Under the servers tab of "Tools/Accounts...".
My Incoming Mail Server is a POP3 server.
Incoming mail: pop.sneakydave.com
Outgoing mail: mail.sneakydave.com
Account name; sneaky
Password: ************************************************
I DON'T have Secure Password Authorization checked
I DON'T have My Server Requires Authorization checked (but I did try it with it being checked previously)

I think the problem lies in here somewhere, because I can send/receive mail fine with good ol' Calypso and in the email troubleshooter.

I haven't been able to get it to work with any one of my sites, so I figure its a goofy Outlook problem.

As always, whenever I type a long question into the FQ forums, I come up with the answer right after I post it. I had to use a different SMTP server name that corresponds with my ISP, things seem to work now.

Bob

Hello SneakyDave :)

Sounds like, and your using your ISP SMTP servers seems to verify that you are the victim of Port 25 blocking. More about this may be read here:
http://www.aota.net/Troubleshooting/port25.php4

There is a way around this when using some email clients, change the SMTP port to 1025 and you should be able to bypass your ISPs block.

Hope this helps,
Bob
