Website Tutorials

Improve your website listing in search engines.

Why use META TAGS? If you are planning to submit your site to any of the large search engines, Meta Tag implementation is essential. They can improve your web site's relevancy in Search Engine results. Many search engines include Meta Tags in their measurement of the relevancy of certain keywords as they relate to your website. Some read Meta Tags and post them with your listing. Frame sites: the main HTML file will not provide any useful information about your web site. So you should include a description to summarize the content of your pages. Use is suggested also if you have javascript at the top of the page.

Each META Tag has a size limit; this CNC Generator will attempt to not allow you to exceed the limits at any time. The actual size used is not as important as the message it conveys, but exceeding the limit can not only hurt you in the search engines but even go as far as having your site banned from them!

TITLE: the most important tag. When spidering your site, the search engine agent will go to the TITLE tag first. So the title should be as descriptive as possible without forgetting that it is a title and not the main description. Try to use as many keywords as you can in your title without being 'tacky' and forgetting what a title is for (60 Characters or less).

DESCRIPTION: This tag lets you control what appears as the summary of your web page and will be displayed after the title of your website in the index listing. It must tell the reader what they will find on the website. Again try to fill the description with as many keywords as you can yet make sure it's a description that is accurate and makes sense (200 Characters or less).

KEYWORDS: The keywords tag is used by the meta capable search engines to help aid them in indexing your website. This is important, the search engines use this information to determine what queries your website will come up under. These will be not visible to the visitor. Try not to repeat your keywords. Use all lower case letters. Add a 'S' to any keyword that would be made plural with it. If a keyword is commonly misspelled by the general public you may even want to add the misspelled keyword!

REVISIT AFTER: Tell the search engine when it should come back and revisit your site to update its database. This will be done in 'number of days' e.g. "revisit my site after 30 days"
