Mailing Lists
A mailing list is an easy way for your visitors to talk with one another, much
like a message forum. Messages are conveniently delivered to each subscriber's
email box every time a new message is posted to the list.
FutureQuest® has pre-installed
the ezmlm-idx mailing list
software for each full domain package on the server. This tutorial will explain
what types of ezmlm-idx lists are available, and will point you to further directions
for creating and maintaining your list. After reading this tutorial you should
be able to easily and quickly start running a mailing list of your own.
Before creating a mailing list you will need to decide what type of list you
require. Below is a short description of the two different types of lists available.
Select the one that will best serve your needs to be taken to the instructions
for how to create that particular type of list.
- Discussion List: A discussion list allows all subscribers to receive
messages sent to the list. The list can be set up so that anyone is able to
post to the list, or so that only subscribers may post to the list. To restrict
posting so that only subscribers may post to the list, the list owner should
refer to the directions on the Discussion List page, which tell how to modify
the list and implement this restriction. A Discussion List provides an environment
similar to a web-based discussion forum, with the convenience of having the
messages delivered directly to your email box.
- Announcement List: An announcement list is used when only the list
owner will be sending messages to the subscribers. Announcement lists are
perfect for informing subscribers of important product information, upgrades,
or sales, along with announcing updates to your web site or for sending out
online newsletters.
Note: The easiest way to create and maintain your mailing lists is to
use your CNC (Command'n'Control) panel. Once logged in, click on Mailing Lists.
A number of the tutorials in this section explain how to work with your lists
manually via Telnet/SSH, which is recommended only for Advanced users.
Once you have chosen the type of list you would like to operate, and created
it, you may then review some of the other tutorials listed below for instructions
on implementing advanced customizations for your mailing list. For example,
the Modifying your
Mailing List tutorial explains how to customize the headers, footers, and
other text contained in your mailing list.
