View Full Version : Web Site & E-mail - Same Domain, Different Servers?

I've got a client who wants to do something I've never heard of and I was hoping to get some feedback from you all.

My client wants their web site at FutureQuest, but their e-mail to be run in-house.[nbsp][nbsp]The catch is, they want to use the same domain name for both servers.

They have a separate company doing their intra-office networking who claims this can be done.[nbsp][nbsp]This company says all that needs to be done is to have a portion of the domain record point to them instead of FutureQuest.

Does anyone have any experience with this and/or know if it can be done?[nbsp][nbsp]

Many thanks,

lnb

This certainly may be done.

It would require a MX record change, which can be ordered here:
http://www.FutureQuest.net/Order/vas.php?service=7

There is a one-time $25.00 setup charge associated with this.

Note the following from the FAQs:
"Once you change the MX Records so that another server is handling your email, FutureQuest is no longer able to support the email accounts as we are no longer controlling them. If you experience problems with an email account, where the MX Records have been changed, you will need to contact the technical support department of the servers that are handling the email."[nbsp][nbsp]This also will prevent the use of ezMLM here at FutureQuest as well.

I hope this helps :)

Have a Good One,
Bob

Thanks for your answer, Bob.[nbsp][nbsp]I really appreciate it.[nbsp][nbsp]I have another question, however.

Can this change be made entirely through FutureQuest or do I need to change the client's domain record through Network Solutions as well?

Thanks!

Hi again,

You will want to leave the DNS information for this domain pointing to the FutureQuest name servers and simply request the MX record change here at FutureQuest.

Hope this helps further,
Bob
