View Full Version : Eudora help?
Can some Eudora expert/guru please help?
I have just installed Eudora 5.02 - fresh install not upgrade - full, paid version.
I have set up four accounts - 1. local broadband provider; 2. local ISP (dial up); 3. FQ domain; 4. another FQ domain.
1 and 2 send and receive mail with no problem, but 3 and 4 will send but not receive mail.[nbsp][nbsp]I've checked and double-checked the FQ settings, and FQ support made some helpful suggestions, but so far nothing solves the problem.[nbsp][nbsp]
I must be doing something wrong, or omitting something, but the mind is reaching the boggling stage![nbsp][nbsp]I've been through the FQ tutorials and Eudora's FAQs to no avail.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?[nbsp][nbsp]Anyone have any suggestions/solutions, please?
Thanks in hope and anticipation.

I use Eudora 5.02 and it works fine, no special settings or anything for FQ. Difficult to say what the problem is.
Are you receiving any errors? Look at the Task Status (under the Tools menu), then try to collect your email. Does it connect properly? In the Eudora directory you'll find the file Eudora.log, which contains error messages. Anything there?
Is anything blocking connections to FQ? Your firewall perhaps?
Are you trying to collect mail from the right account? I mean, you're not looking at the wrong POP3 account?
Thanks for responding, Arthur.
'No' to most of your questions. The task bar indicates that mail is being checked. Connection should be OK as I can *send* mail from both accounts.
I am using a firewall (Norton) but I tried disabling it and still no incoming.
The log file shows consistently "Dismissed with 1", twice for each time Eudora checks for mail.[nbsp][nbsp]I assume this is for the two FQ accounts the others are OK.[nbsp][nbsp]Can you interpret this for me?
Thanks again.

Chris,
Have you tried changing the order in which Eudora checks your mail?[nbsp][nbsp]Try putting the one you're having trouble with as the dominant personality, if it's not there already.[nbsp][nbsp]I know in the past I had trouble picking up mail from numerous POPs and a change of order did the trick.
Worth a try.
-Dean
Thanks, Dean - but my 'dominant' is currently one of the FQ accounts which is the problem.
I've just searched the Eudora tech support site for info on this "Dismissed with 1" message but can't find anything.
BTW, how would I replace the current dominant?[nbsp][nbsp]The dominant account can't deleted.
Thanks again.

I don't know what the 'Dismissed with 1' message exactly means, I think that happens when an error is ignored.
How do you check your mail, by clicking the Check Mail button (or CTRL+M)? If you look at the account settings for the FQ accounts, is the Check Mail option checked?
If this option is not checked, the mail is not retrieved automatically for that account when you click the Check Mail button, you have to manually tell Eudora to check the account (Click on the Personalities tab, right-click on the 'Personality' and choose Check Mail).
The option Dean gave is also worth a try.
Also, take a look at the Event Log of your firewall. Was a pop3 connection (attempt) made to your domain?

With Eudora, go into the directory where it is installed...
*close* Eudora first
Edit the 'EUDORA.INI' file.
Add the following to the top:
[Debug]
LogFileName=EUDORA.LOG
LogFileSize=500
LogLevel=255
;LogLevel=31
;LogLevel=0
Fire Eudora back up and check the POP box not working...
Now go look at the EUDORA.LOG file, as this will contain the actual POP protocol conversation...

Here's another way to activate more debugging info; stop Eudora, move the plug-in esoteric.epi from the extrastuff directory to the main Eudora directory.
Now under Tools -> Options, you'll find the category Logging. Check the options you want.
Arthur
Terra: thank you for taking that trouble.[nbsp][nbsp]I've done as you suggested but don't see much of significance in the logs!
Arthur: moved that file and put in preferences.[nbsp][nbsp]The weird thing is that, although I've sent myself test messages, and they're not picked up, there are still no errors logged!
'Dismissed with 1' is just "OK", I think - it appears after a dialogue, e.g. empty trash, etc.[nbsp][nbsp]:D
I think I'll just uninstall everything and start over.[nbsp][nbsp]I'll report back, if I may, to let you know how I get on!
Thanks again for all the help.

OK - all uninstalled and re-installed! I even re-downloaded the Eudora file.
Same problem![nbsp][nbsp]A test message sent to my root email address is picked up OK but those to my POP3 accounts not.[nbsp][nbsp]I wonder - do I need to tweak something in my CNC?[nbsp][nbsp]I have catch-all enabled.
Thanks again for any and all help.

Well - I've solved the problem, almost by accident.[nbsp][nbsp]I changed my log-in names to match the email address, e.g. instead of logging in as 'aroma' it's now 'admin'.[nbsp][nbsp]Still doesn't seem quite right, somehow, but at least I can now access incoming mail.[nbsp][nbsp]Time will tell if the changes I made will cause other problems!
I am truly grateful to everyone who took time from their busy schedules to offer assistance with what was, after all, a personal problem with third-party software.[nbsp][nbsp]It is this kind of support and cyber-friendship that makes FutureQuest a special place, and ends my day on a warm glow.
Thank you all again, most sincerely.
Best regards.

Glad you solved the problem, Chris.
I kept reading the inputs to this thread as they came in, and I wanted to post this...
"Dump Eudora & get The Bat"
but I didn't. To do so would have rubbed salt in the wound, right?
I am soooo sweet.
Aloha from Hawaii,
Bellgamin
Thanks for holding back, Bellgamin. :)
I've had a look at The Bat! and may give it a try.[nbsp][nbsp]It certainly looks interesting as an alternative to Eudora.
