One of my customer (puzzled by privacy issue) asked the following question:
Is it technically possible for a site to collect a visitor email address without his/her consent?
Providing it is possible, what language is it based on?
Many thanks for your input

The less information which your browser has access to, the less it will be able to pass to a malicious site. In Netscape preferences, I have removed all identifying information and disabled its ability to launch ftp and telnet.
Browsers used to hand over their email addresses (used for responding to mailto: links) as a part of their environment variable set, but I think the later versions don't.
Beyond that, I've no confidence whatsoever in any security of Windows clients. It seems to me that far too much information is stored in a freely accessible registry.
Best practice for Win users: disable the scripting; hide IE; use Netscape bare of personal info; use a real text mode quality email client with good filtering (PMmail, the Bat)
