I've mentioned this problem a while ago, but it's still occuring :(.
I have 3 spam emails (in duplicate) that get retrieved from the server every other day or so.[nbsp][nbsp]I delete them, but they always come back.
If someone could please tell me how to get rid of these and how to prevent this from happening, I'd really appreciate it :)!
Oh yeah, is there a way to get rid of that annoying "Welcome to Netscape" email?
Thanx much!

I made a similar posting earlier in the week Joi.[nbsp][nbsp]Although I set up a filter in Eudora to 'delete mail on server' it had no effect.[nbsp][nbsp]I'm still receiving the same #@%$!! email, grrrr.......

Read this; http://www.aota.net/Troubleshooting/port110.php3 It tells you amongst others how to delete email from the server. Retrieve your mail and then use the described procedure to delete the email that was left behind (which should be the spam).

Yep, I've done that :).

Joi:
That tells me that you either:
a) entered the wrong POP box account name
user xmyparenttime-accountname
or
b) you are trying to login to an Alias, which does not have a POP box - therefore the error...
Your account does in fact required the VMIP- specifier for POP login...

Hey Terra,
I've tried different combinations of names all day.[nbsp][nbsp]Do I log on as a remote user?[nbsp][nbsp]This is what I thought I needed to put in:
Host name: xmyparentime-accountname
Port: 110
TermType: vt100
Using the above, I get "FutureQuest.net" in the message.[nbsp][nbsp]I then type in: user-xmyparentime-accountname, and pass mypasswordhere.[nbsp][nbsp]Now I'm getting the error "-ERR authorization failed".[nbsp][nbsp]I know I have my account name and password correct...what am I doing wrong?
Joi~
Hi Joi,
Any chance that your trying to access your root/shell POP account and you have it forwarded?
If that was the case you would get the ERR message.
Don't know if this helps or not :(
Good Luck,
Bob

Any chance that your trying to access your root/shell POP account and you have it forwarded?
I only have one email address and a catch-all email address that forwards other emails.[nbsp][nbsp][nbsp][nbsp]My root email account is not set up for forwarding.[nbsp][nbsp]I'm at a loss :(.
Joi~
Hi again Joi,
"and a catch-all email address that forwards other emails.[nbsp][nbsp]My root email account is not set up for forwarding."
That would be exactly what I am suggesting, if you are attempting to telnet into the root/shell email address (which is the catch-all) it sounds as though it is forwarded
If your Catch-All is forwarding your email to another address then you do indeed have forwarding enabled on your root/shell email account.
You may wish to take a visit to your CNC and take a look at your settings.
If you still continue to have problems, please drop us a line at the Service Desk as we may require additional information that wouldn't be appropriate for the forums.
I hope this helps :)
Have a Good One,
Bob

Bob, do you suggest that I quit the forwarding of the "catch-all" account so I can telnet and delete these emails from the server?
Joi~
Hi again Joi,
If you are attempting to access your forwarded POP (catch-all) account via telnet it will not work as long as you have forwarding enabled, the same as attempting to access it via an email client, if it's forwarded you cannot access it.
You may change the forwarding option by visiting your CNC Email Manager.
I would also suggest that you visit your CNC Email Manager and take a look at your POP email accounts, as it will also list the number of emails that are sitting in any of your POP accounts.
I hope that this will help further :)

In the CNC it shows that I have 0 emails -- not talking about the catch-all address.[nbsp][nbsp]I think I may send an email to privately discuss the situation...I'm running out of ideas :).
Thanx for your help!
Best always,
Joi~

Well, again I've tried to connect to my email via telnet, but it isn't working.[nbsp][nbsp]I get that error -ERR unable to scan $HOME/Maildir, so I try and login with xmyparentime, but it says it cannot connect to xmyparentime.[nbsp][nbsp]I'm at a loss as to what to do now :(.
Joi~
Joi,
That would be absolutely fine, sending an email to Service@FutureQuest.net.
I do need to apologize though, as I haven't addressed your other question.

These two pages show basically the same process, which should accomplish what you are seeking:

I hope this works ;)

Are you setting the PORT number correctly? (I believe, that for POP it is 110, but you should double check that.)

I tried to delete that 1 file that is suggested at the above URL, but when I clicked on that file it said "error" and wouldn't let me open it to make the changes :(.

Hi Joi,
The only thing I can think of would be, did you attempt to modify the file with any instance of Netscape running?
If so I don't believe you would be able to modify it, however if Netscape is completely closed, it should allow you to modify it.
You may wish to launch the Task Manager, Ctrl + Alt + Del, and check to make sure it's completely shut down.
I hope this helps,
Bob
Hi again Joi,
Back on the subject of "Deleting email from the server".
Some have experienced problems in doing this with telnet as outlined in this tutorial:
http://www.aota.net/Troubleshooting/port110.php3
We have, in just the last few hours, added two additional tutorials regarding this and methods that may be used to accomplish this process:
http://www.aota.net/Email/Delete_Email.php3
Explains and /or links to different solutions to accomplish this on the FutureQuest Servers, including the above telnet method, utilizing your CNC for both your root account and for regular POP accounts. and Brand New, using a third party software solution that TeRRa located and the author, Mike Mann, was kind enough to allow us to provide our own downloads.
POP3 Scan Mailbox, is a FREE utility that can simply access your email accounts and list your email and then using it you can delete selected email.[nbsp][nbsp]Once installed on your computer there is a simple entry box to enter the information to access your email, much like setting up an email client, no command prompt knowledge is needed.
That specific tutorial may be found here:
http://www.aota.net/Email/ScanMail.php3
I hope this helps :)
Enjoy the evening,
Bob

Thanx for all your helpful advice Bob :)!!
