Yesterday, when I turned my monitor on, the colors seemed darker .. for example.. one image that I know is supposed to be primary blue, is looking black instead. I can easily get my monitor replaced... I check with the company. However I wasn't sure if it were simply the monitor or if something else could cause this?
I have been trying to adjust my monitor settings but it won't allow me to brighten or lighten things any more than they already are.

Umm... I'd say that it has a problem if you can't adjust the settings. I had a monitor awhile back that wouldn't allow me all of a sudden and it was this little 4x3inch box on my 10inch monitor... it also had distorted colors and flickered alot. I obviously returned it by mail (ABS Computer is in California, I'm in FL) immediately.

PS: If you really want to here the whole story behind this -- actually, I'll just type it real quick to avoid going back to work. :) I sent it off to them and they sent me another one, but they charged $500 on my credit card! It took about 2 months and involvement with the Better Business Bureau to get it through there fat heads. :D *sigh* I guess things just happen. Anyways, I'll stop talking now. Back to work as usual....
Also assure the video card is ok.. but odds are it's the monitor...
My story == Involvement with Packard Bell about 3 years ago... the monitor without warning just went black.[nbsp][nbsp]Boom one second I was chatting on IRC and the next I was staring at a black screen.[nbsp][nbsp]After calling tech support which involved:
1. Assuring them I wasn't wearing sun glasses
2. Assuring them the monitor was in fact pluged in
3. Assuring them the monitor was in fact turned on
4. Assuring them I had played with every knob on the thing to no avail
5. Reassuring all of the above were facts..and that I hadn't unplugged it when I removed the sun glasses I wasn't wearing and that I hadn't turned it off after plugging in the monitor that was already plugged in (you get the idea)
They then sent a tech up to my home with a new monitor and replaced the old free of charge.... total time two weeks no muss no fuss ... outside of him re-verifying the monitor was in fact plugged in and he wasn't wearing sun glasses and it was turned on ...... ;)

well.. the place i purchased my computer is one of the best companies! I did ask about my video card, but they were quite certain that this was not the prob.. *so crossing my fingers they are right* and tomorrow all I have to do is show up with this monitor and get a new one and a brand new warranty!
Which I feel very thankful for.. Cuz HP is not so nice about my scanner! :(

Don't you just hate tech support people? Er, um, scratch that...
My monitor blew up a couple (3 or 4) months ago, as in I though it was stealing my cigarettes :)[nbsp][nbsp]This thing was from like '92, had an inch of space on all 4 sides of the picture, making the 14" look like a 12" monitor. The colors were all screwy, etc etc and finally it popped.
Now I'm using a $99 cheap monitor and the colors suck... it's not bad for $99, but it's still just a 14" cheapo. But hey, when you're in a bind, gotta have something:)
The sad part is that like 10 years from now this one will probably blow up and I'll end up buying another $99 monitor (probably be cheaper by then anyway hehe:)
<edit>
PS - Hey, hearts - what was it you scanned again that broke your scanner? <evil grin>

ummmmmmmm... Justin.. let's not get into that shall we? *evil malicious grin* I might have to tell the story of the fire hydrant! ;)
okay.. truth is.. i was scanning some flowers that my four year old daughter picked.. and when we went to scan them, it made a grinding noise.. and Meagan's heart broke, cuz she wanted to see her "pwetty flowers" on the computer.
So there.. it ain't a terrible story, and Rich can back me up on this, cuz I sent him a very distraught email back when it happened!
andddddddddd.. since we are on the topic of scanners, I have to officially take back the :( i posted earlierr! I got a phone call just now from HP and the gentleman is arranging for my scanner to be picked up on Monday and they are gonna repair it for absolutely free!
So.. I am happy.. my monitor will be replaced, my scanner will be repaired, and I am going out of town tomorrow with one of my online buds... *to waste money* -- and life goes on.............
