Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone can
tell me how to set up 2 or more 'users' in Netscape...

So how do I go about adding another one? I need this so I can setup another e-mail box in Netscape to receive mail separately.
In other words, have different boxes for my ISP account and my webhosting account. Are you guys confused yet? http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif I am!

Sorry, nutscape won't do real multiple boxes... The way to pull it off is to have Nutscape 4.05 or higher, and set up several profiles. Then each profile can have it's own bookmarks, preferences, email, etc... However, each profile can still only have one email box set up. To get to a different profile, you have to exit the browser and restart it under a different profile. It certainly comes in handy at my house, wy wife and I have our own profile so we don't have to look at each others bookmarks and such http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

I suggest downloading Eudora or Pegasus (can't recall addresses, run a search on the board for them, they've been addresses here before). Eudora Pro (or whatever they named the paid version) handles multiple boxes, and the free Pegasus does multi boxes as well.

Hope this helps

Thanks Del... that was helpful! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif Ü

I am gonna try Pegasus, even though on my old PC it seemed alittle buggy and would crash, but I am trying with my new up-to-date PC.

I was looking for a good, FREE multiple box prgram... I think Pegasus is it!

BUT if someone knows of any trick to Netscape 4.04 to accomplish the multiple boxes, PLEASE post, because I still prefer 'Nutscapes' mail.

Thanks people!

PS: I need a free alternative because I am currently in a limited "internet budget" because I spent alot of money on launch of my site in later Feb.

PSS: I talk way too much and go into lots of explanations that are unneccessary, don't I? I need to stop this habit because it most likely gets tedious and once I received a pretty bad flame in a Newsgroup. ACK! I'm starting again....

I too prefer nutscape's mail over most. But what with the single mailbox, and the fact that I have to be able to check mail from school too, I ended up installing MailMan ( http://www.endymion.com/products/mailman ). It's a Perl CGI that'll let you check/send popmails from wherever, because it runs on the server through your browser. Installation is a snap, although it's a bit different on FQuest than what they'll tell you.

If you're interested in putting it in, let me know and I'll explain the differences (the problem is the fact that you can't serve images and such from your cgi-bin)

Well, I downloaded Pegasus from http://www.pegasus.usa.com/dl/ and it ran perfectly. And I must say I am quite pleased! http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'll have to say no to the mailman thing though, I will probably survive with PMail just fine.

I downloaded mailman - sounds really good, however, I could not get it to work at all. I did it locally, not on FQ, and I ran it from the command line:

perl -w whatever.pl

and got a butload of errors. I looked at it in Notepad and it looks like it is word wrapped - not Notepad's word wrap, but it's like that in the file. Most of the errors listed were along the lines of something went wrong, possible forgot the ";" - I forget the wording, but that tells me it was saved like that, word wrapped. I downloaded the NT version, and it says the only difference is the CRLF thing, and it's a zip file. The CRLF shouldn't matter on 98 (should work right).

I really like the idea, though, so maybe I'll get the tar-gzip version and look at it. I set all the paths to another directory for images, etc., too, even though it doesn't matter on my box, so that when I put it on FQ I wouldn't have to change it.

mailman is way kewl http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif we use itall the time away from home - only down side is it sodenst save what ya write and send so I just have to cc myself if I want a copy of what I emailed someone.

also for anyone runing win5 or 98 the resident mail program Exchange works with multiple POP's I dont know if OUtlook express does since we didnt intall it (we have the full version with Office) but Exchange is laready in there and it does the trick.
Pmail is also a good prog and its free.

I've been using Eudora for yonks (good old british slang for a long time http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif) now and I still reckon it's the best. I can check mail on 4 accounts, currently have 117 mailboxes and have numerous filters set up for my golfing ladder; signup, match report, query etc .. Works great although I have heard the latest ver4 has a few quirks to it. I use ver 3.05(32) You can download a lite version I believe. www.qualcomm.com (http://www.qualcomm.com)

Lite version of Eurdora won't do multiple pop accounts, though. Eventually, I might buy it Pro. I use Outlook for now because it does multiple accounts - I have 4 set up with it, and it works, but it has a few bugs and other things I don't like. Mainly, it doesn't show the sender's email address if they have a "Friendly Name" in there. I have to look at the message header to see their address. That sux for verifying who someone is.

Then, if the person doesn't have a "Friendly Name", it refuses to add them to the address book, and I have to guess and type it in manually. Major waste of time making mailing lists.

If they would just fix those issues, which aren't really bugs I guess, I'd be happy with it. Does multiple accounts nicely, though, and even has decent filtering.

I only have Navigator, so I don't have Nutscape's email, and it only does one account too. Why, I don't know; how hard could it be to store separate servernames/usernames/passwords? Not very. Considering they have separate profiles, they could at least have multiple pop accounts for one profile.
