IRQ Steering huh?

man sincer I installed win98 it liek fudged up 4 settings like something like IRQ Steering for PCI is disabled (code 22) er duno what that means - but no matter what we do that diagnostic keeps coming up (we uussednuts and botls) its the only thing we aint been abale to fix- I mean and win98 really screwed up things tok me all night to fix em all! and since I isntalled win98 I havent been able to put hte puter on sleep mode if I use the win poermanager thingy it tellsme I cant put hte computer on standby cuz a device driver is precventing it and oh I need to turn the puter onadn off fromthe backmain switch if I shiut it downthen try to turn it onfrom the front swtich - which also control the standby mode - it wont boot - so whatevr win89 did it fudged up the computer own powermanagement stuff and it seems to have to do with thes e4 errors I get about IRQ PCI streering sokmething (If I was home I'd tell you exactly the errors -but maybe someone knows what I mean)
I've tried uninstalling windopws power managment and reintsallibng the PCI bus cuz I cant figure out what otehr things would deal wirtht hat but nothign works inthe system panel nbothing is marked with that ! nothing indicatews anythinghas been disabled -
its stupid Win98 fuging up my system and if anyone knows how to fix it I will fall downb and worship you - I figure theregotta be a way to restore or resctivate allthat stuff I mean something disabled it so liek ti gotta be reinabled right? oh eyh and once I uninstaled the win powermanagement I was able to press the fron button to butthe puter in standby but when I turn it back on the cloick does not update itself - itg used to update itself when I nbroughthte computer up from standby - now it is behind how ever many hours I had the computer in standby

I told win 98 to make it so I can rstore win 95 but if thereaneasy way to do that it dont say - and I relly dont want to restore it I'll loose all that disk ospace and have to redo my system over and i already spent the time and money installinghte dang thing anyhow so Im oretty determined ot make it work -
so what do I need to do and how do I do it?

I hate to say this, but it's always better to do a clean install. Upgrades never work right. It's best to format and reinstall 98 from scratch. The only difference in the upgrade version is that it will ask you for the 95 CD to verify that you are upgrading.

I had a probelm once with the IRQ steering for PCI - for some reason Windows kept detecting things it had already installed, like com ports and printer ports. It was all caused by an IRQ conflick on my modem. I finally fixed it by removing COM1 in CMOS (never used it anyway) and going into System properties and removing a butload of stuff.

Next reboot, Windows redetected all of the stuff I removed and straitened it all out. Sometimes that's what you have to do. Remove stuff and let Windows have the satisfaction of knowing that she detected all of the hardware and that she fixed the problem. She's very picky, that Windows. Especially now that she's getting older and fatter http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

hmm I fixed the problem wiht the standby there this little application ionthe win98 cd called PMTshooter which you install then reboot and you'll ge tthis dialog that says try to put hte machine on standby adn if anything goes wrong the PMTshooet program will catch it and tell you how to fix it http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
What it did was make some changes to the registery so the compuer is now using win power management - the errors are still coming up wheni run diagnostics but the problems I was experienceing are completely gone!

anyway I dont get it cuz when I did go into the system menus the IRQ streering whatevr was alwasy checked off as active
