Okay, I'm not very good about checking the forums anyway, and when I do, I only look at the top 4. So until today, it totally went past me that the domain registration process had changed.
Is there anyway to take the domains I already own from NSI and put them with register.com? Their interface is SOOOO much easier to understand. I can't even figure out how to change my e-mail address on NSI, so I keep the same lousy ISP so I'll be sure to get billing notices, etc.
I hope this forces NSIs hand on a few things, like customer service :)

Yeah but what do you do if the old e-mail address is no longer valid?[nbsp][nbsp]This is an issue I am dealing with now... NSI seems to have never considered this and apparently neither did I.[nbsp][nbsp]:(
Can the admin contacts (hehehe, FQ) change that info for me, Deb?[nbsp][nbsp]Or do I have to sacrifice my first born, a pint of blood and 45 faxes to NSI to do it.[nbsp][nbsp]No problem on the first two there, but those long distance calls add up...LOL.
Classic reason for a Tech Contact ;)
Yes we can help.[nbsp][nbsp]Please send the needed changes to Support@FutureQuest.net and we'll go from there.
Deb
Heh we all hope so :)
From the Register.com FAQ.. How do I transfer my registrar to register.com? .com, .net and .org domain names registered with register.com on or after June 2, 1999 have full access to services offered by Manage My Domain/Domain Manager. Names registered with register.com before June 2, 1999 have limited access to Manage My Domain/Domain Manager, in the near future register.com will allow individuals to transfer their registrar to register.com to take full advantage of Manage My Domain/Domain Manager. I'll be happy to see the availability there.

ok to change your email address just fill out the domain modification form, it will then email you at the old address asking if the change is ok then it will update it (this is in theory assuming it actualy works lol)

I made it to the bottom of the forums and read all the buzz about domain registrations - very intersting, but wondering how they are ever going to keep all this organized with so many people being registrars. I'll be glad to get rid of the need for NSI in my life anyhow :)
I'm going to attempt (one more time) to change my e-mail address using the directions above and then I'm gonna change my ISP and get cable access. Zoooooommmmmm.

I believe I may have made this work. First I had to go in to my e-mail program and change my reply-to and e-mail from addresses back to the old address (which is still working, much simpler I'm sure). What a pain.
Then I went to:
http://www.networksolutions.com/makechanges/ and typed in one of the domains I am contact for. Then on the next screen I clicked on "Contact Form" and made the changes from there. Fixed a fax number, added Inc. to my company name and changed my e-mail address. It seems to have gone through, but we shall wait and see.
I thought I was going to have to go in to each and every domain I manage to change it before that "contact form" came up. It's also the first time of MANY times looking through their site that that option became available.
It seems so "easy" now, perhaps sleep deprivation was the cure ...

does FQ have to be the tech contact?
No, not at all.[nbsp][nbsp]We can not help you to make changes or transfers if we are not tech so we do recommend it but by all means you can list whoever you like ;)

Is this what this thread is about?
From the domain registration form from FQ:
- Important Notice -
Though FutureQuest no longer registers domain names, due to the recent changes with InterNIC, we do provide the needed forms and help required to complete this task. You must have a domain name to host a web site on the FutureQuest servers.
If you have not done so already, please click here to register xxxxx.com.
There is a one-time $50 fee to change your domain name after your account has been activated. It is very important that you have selected a domain name that is available to you before completing this order. The best way to be sure you will be able to obtain xxxxx.com is to register it now. To begin registering xxxxx.com, click here. Once you have completed the registration of xxxxx.com, you may complete this order.
To begin the registration process, Click Here.

What's this $50 fee? For setup? I don't understand. Is there a notice I missed, or a thread that explains the reasoning behind this?
Thanks

There is no $50 setup fee.
There is a fee for having a domain name setup on an account and then changing the domain name on that account.[nbsp][nbsp]This fee has always been around, but due to the fact that it is up to the site owner to obtain the domain name we are trying to make it clear the importance of selecting the name you will actually be using.
The notice is on the order forms to stress the fact that the request being made needs to be for the domain name that will be on the account to help prevent this type of problem.[nbsp][nbsp]
If you order an account for "microsoft.com" before checking to assure you can have "microsoft.com" and we setup "microsoft.com" and then you go to register it... only to find out that it is already owned by someone else you will need to change the domain name.[nbsp][nbsp]This carries a fee.[nbsp][nbsp]So it is best, as the notice states, to assure the domain name you are requesting is the name you will be using.
