View Full Version : PowerPoint readers?

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a freeware/shareware program that can read PowerPoint files, and if so, where it can be found?[nbsp][nbsp]I looked around www.winfiles.com (http://www.winfiles.com) a bit, but couldn't find anything.
Something that just reads a single .ppt page would be just fine, i.e. it could be a crippled demo and it would suit my needs.[nbsp][nbsp]I have PowerPoint '95, but it doesn't meet Win 2000's approval.[nbsp][nbsp]I am occasionally sent PowerPoint layouts, and it would be rather nice to be able to view them...[nbsp][nbsp]:)[nbsp][nbsp]I figure I'll wait another generation of MS Office before upgrading -- wouldn't it be nice if in addition to new versions they released plugins for old versions that allowed you to read newer file formats?![nbsp][nbsp]Would anyone ever upgrade then?[nbsp][nbsp]:P
Thanks,
Demo
I'm not sure if this will be of any help since I haven't worked with 95 anything for quite awhile now. I did however find something that may interest you.
Instead of trying to locate exactly what may be right for you, take a look at what CNET may have to offer at http://download.cnet.com/downloads/1,10150,0-10001-103-0-1-7,00.html?tag=st%2Ecn%2E10074%2Dron%2Esbs-r&qt=powerpoint&cn=Multimedia+%26+Design&ca=10001
Looks like there may be some options for you there. :)

Hey Dan,
Ask and ye shall receive... everything you could ever want for PowerPoint viewing can be found here (http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/Articles/viewerscvt.htm).
Hope this helps...

Hmm, this response is a mixed bag...
First of all -- thanks!!![nbsp][nbsp]:)[nbsp][nbsp]That's exactly what I was looking for.[nbsp][nbsp](Both links posted point to the same program.)
On the other hand -- doesn't work a lick.[nbsp][nbsp]:([nbsp][nbsp]I had to download it twice just to get an executable file.[nbsp][nbsp]Dang slow download.[nbsp][nbsp]After installing it, I had the same problem as I did after installing PowerPoint from Office 95 -- it disables several features of Windows 2000, such as little things like not being able to open Windows Explorer...[nbsp][nbsp]I thought it was a peculiarity of PowerPoint 95, but now I'm not so sure.[nbsp][nbsp]The PowerPoint Viewer says it works for Win 2000.
Has anyone successfully run any PowerPoint version on Windows 2000?
Oh by the way, when I said I plan on skipping a generation of Office software, I should say that I currently have Office 97, but without the full suite from my Office 95 disc.[nbsp][nbsp]Small clarification.

Has anyone successfully run any PowerPoint version on Windows 2000? Well, out of curiosity I fired up PowerPoint 2000 real quick - looks like it works...
I know this probably does not help... ;)
