View Full Version : HTML editor?
If learning new things is out right now... then I suggest http://www.UltraEdit.com
UltraEdit is a very lowcost shareware text editor... perfect for MANY THINGS!
One thing you can do with UltraEdit is Search & Replace... download your whole site so you have a current version of everything and then tell UltraEdit to search and replace "Dog" with "Cat" on every file http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif voila.. tis done... then re-upload....
Terra often says UltraEdit is just Notepad on steroids http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hi,
I can only agree that UltraEdit is the *best* editor to have. I've registered it, because it can syntax highlight my perl-scripts and that's a great help. I'm not using it for HTML, but I'm already considering it for this job.

Okay now I feel real dumb... (DOH!!!! - as Homer Simpson would say).
Turns out the AOLPress I use to edit HTML does support mini-webs which categorizes the whole site if you want or just a specific directory and has a search and replace feature. I just changed like 125+ pages in like 5 minutes. GOD I LOVE TECHNOLOGY! That would have taken me a couple of hours the long way.
I apologize for even posting and wasting everybodies time. But thank you all for being

No question on these forums is ever really a waste of time.....
It's important to remember that your question has come up before and will come up again by many others.. now there are some answers here on the forums that people can search for http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif My Support@ email box likes that http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
One thing I've noticed in myself numerous times (all the time?) and with so many others is that we rarely realize EVERYTHING that any of our software programs can do...
There was a post somewhere in these forums by someone who had, by accident, found that Windows comes stock with Telnet and FTP.. I myself have only begun to scratch the abilities of UltraEdit... Many of us purchase ten different programs to do the tasks that one of our other program already does...
For example -- I used Windows Commander and Winzip and CuteFTP for the LONGEST time before I realized that Windows commander already had the ability to compress and uncompress all of my files (throw away winzip) then realized I could FTP not only easily but with more convienience with Windows Commander too! (throw away cuteFTP)... I essentially paid for three separate programs when I only needed one http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif
I'm trying much harder now to spend time in the help files *grin* but even then I seem to miss a great deal of the capabilities...
Result -- we use and learn as we go http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
Now we know that AOLPress has some kewl features too http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
Thanks for listening to me ramble hehe

Thanks Deb. God I have like so many programs on this 'puter and probably haven't scratched the surface on most of them.
Only need one of three? Wow, what a bummer huh? But I guess that's why I always see what features are listed on the software box so I don't overlap and waste money. (I still do however http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif )
Actually I used that Mini-Web feature on the AOLPress when I first start making sites...though I didn't really understand it then. Thing is AOLPress has the feature of letting you load and save directly to AOL web space without saving to hard drive even, which is what I used to do. (Which is also what took me so long to convert to FQ).
The mini-web feature though uses some LARGE extra files to maintain the info about the directories and such, which ate some really valuable space on the site (only had 2mb). So I dumped them and never used again.
Once I get caught up on things around the site, (yeah like that ever happens) I am thinking about learning more about HTML 4.0, CSS, SSI and such. Think I'm turning into a relic only using 3.2 http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif

Okay...this is annoying changing links site wide over 200+ pages. Anyone know a good affordable html editor/utility that can edit links site wide quickly and easily?
Thought Homesite did, but their site just annoyed me all their slow-loading-never-get to-the-answers-i-need site. (Wow...wonder if that's how people feel about my site...lol).
Yeah I know I could use CSS or something much easier. But have no time to re-learn things and like design backwards compatiable. (not everyone use 4+ browsers)

Hello Armand,
I went searching for HTML editors and found a couple places you can find some freeware or shareware html editors.
http://www.flfsoft.com has one called HTML Builder.
http://www.softseek.com has listings of shareware/freeware for any type of software. They will also give you some information on the software. I searched for "html editor" and there were 500 hits.
Hope this helps,

we had to deal with this problem when rabbit rescue moved to its own domain and beofre that when I moved to a new domain - we used the find and replace feature in arachnophilia . It was a beautiful thing!
for example out links all started with http://www.tifosi.com/pet-rescue/ so I told it to find and replace that with http://www.rabbitrescue.org and since it just replaced that phrase poart the subfodlers were left intact it was way kwl adn easy -
for repetitive links or text on our sites we use SSI - that way we just have to edit one docuemtn adn all teh otehr pages are automatically updated withthe new text and links http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
beats editing 200 pages! ack!

May I say I have used several HTML editors and have found Note Tab Pro to be the finest I have used. Some of the ones I used/tried to use cost over $100.00 and Note Tab Pro is only $19.95. It is full of very fine features. Give it a try. I think you will like the results.

I've just got EditPlus and really like it. It seems to have everything that Ultra Edit does and a bit more.
