View Full Version : Search Engine Blues..

Hi,

2 months ago I had submitted my site (pugzone.com) to all the major search engine places like alta vista, excite etc, etc.

I used the meta tag builder utility from aota.net (I think that's where I found it), and got really good placement on all of these sites. Suddenly, my site is nowhere to be found anywhere except on alta vista, though I do confess I didn't go beyond the first 10 pages of results on any search results.

Someone suggested to me that the spiders go back and re-index your site every two weeks and perhaps I had a robots.txt file that prevented it. I checked, and all I have is a robots.txt that prevents indexing /stats. Others have told me that I simply got bumped into a lower position but I can't see that..I didn't see any new Pug sites in the results. I haven't changed anything in the meta tags so I'm at a loss as to why.

Can someone provide me with a little guidance on what could be happening here? And/or how I can improve my postion?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Mel

Have you changed your pages?[nbsp][nbsp]I've found with a home page that I keep updating that search engine position will move significantly just based on those changes.[nbsp][nbsp]

As for getting back in there.[nbsp][nbsp]You could try re-submitting.[nbsp][nbsp]Quite a few people seem to recommend doing this on a monthly basis.[nbsp][nbsp]

A couple of useful sites http://www.searchenginewatch.com, or I-search digest http://www.audettemedia.com/i-search/ maybe able to offer you more tips.

Thanks Jarrod!

I've checked out both sites and they were helpful in understanding how the search engines work.

My site has changed a lot with added content, but after looking through all the return pages, I found that my site had simply dropped off most of the search engines completely. It may have something to do with SIX being down at a time when the spiders re-indexed I'm told, but whatever the cause, I've resubmitted and will hopefully get back up there.
