I was playing with the idea of writing a stats program - just to see how hard it would be. I figured I could see how hard I could push my 98 box processing the log files, etc while testing and stuff. I got as far as displaying unique referers when I thought I saw the "Y" word...

I only downloaded the log file for yesterday (5-28), and I think this is brand new - it wouldn't have shown in my stats until this morning (which I'm going to look right after this post :))[nbsp][nbsp]So I think I got in... I hope this brings me some traffic. I wonder - why does the listing below mine get those kewl sun glasses??? All I have is the little new icon...
Oh, well - just wanted to mention that I got in on the second try and the only thing I did different the second time was put "Thank you." in the comments box. No long explanation or brown nosing, just Thank you :)

Uhhggg.... just 'Thank You'?!?
Is that some sort of a secret or just pure coincedence or brag-ation? :D lol

HOMER: If you've been good...pizza, if you've been bad...poison.
LISA: What if one of us has been good, and the other bad?
BART: Poison pizza.
HOMER: Oh, no! I'm not making two stops!

I only mentioned that because I've heard people say that you should put something in the comments box like "Thank you for considering our listing - we love what you do for the internet community!!" etc etc - and to me that is extremely obvious :)[nbsp][nbsp]So I just said "Thank you" and there I am.[nbsp][nbsp]I didn't get into the category I wanted, but close enough.
The other thing I did this time (which was probably more help than the thank you) was I shortened the title on my site to just Host Facts. I did have "Host Facts - Facts and Myths about Web Hosting" but I know Yahoo doesn't like that.
Then I reduced my keywords and description to about 2 lines each. Honestly I think that's what helped more than anything. Now that I'm in Yahoo I can put all that back so the other engines will better index my site (and you wonder why I like PHP's include() command so much :))

Another tip (urban myth?) about Yahoo that I've exploited is to use the regional editors.[nbsp][nbsp]Tried to get a site listed 3 times on .com, and then tried one of the others and got in first time.[nbsp][nbsp]Who know's if it is co-incidence :)
Now if only I can get them to do this on the new site :(

I just posed my experience with Yahoo in another thread here, but to sum up:
http://www.avondale.com ~ Site for largest manufacturing employer in the State of Louisiana, two tries and two months to get listed in Yahoo.
http://www.kineticanimation.com ~ Small vinyl graphics business in Sarasota, Florida took one week and one try to get listed in Yahoo.
No special tricks I used for either listing ...
I think it all comes down to luck!
[nbsp] I would love to do the same. Am new at this and would like some tips to get on Yahoo> Thanks, Lisa
