I use the worst word you can use if you provide a legitimate service: Sex.

I provide counseling for people with sexual addictions. My fear is that the search engines will drop me because of the word.

Below are the keywords, description and title I'm thinking of using. Any knowledgeable feedback would be appreciated:

<TITLE>Counseling for sexual addictions, masturbation, porn</TITLE>

<META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="Counseling for sexual addiction, sex addiction, sex addicts, masturbation, porn, prositution, sexual recovery, sexual obsession, masterbation">

<META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="sexual addiction, masturbation, sex addict, sexual recovery,
sex obsession, masterbation, prostitution, pornography, , , , , , , , ">

<META NAME="REVISIT-AFTER" CONTENT="30 days">
-------
Note masturbation is mentioned twice because some people misspell it using *er* instead of ur.

Thanx much.

The site is

You are correct that some will not allow the word in the searches.... many will though.

Note -- Human run searches will be fine. For example YAHOO! has a human check each site and as such would understand the diff between your site and a porn site.

Now bots are different... and most that dissallow certain words/content also warn you as such when the submission is being made and give you a chance to make correntions if/where needed. If you are unsure how a search engines is listing things.. try searching for your site in an engine that does not have it listed... example search: "addicted to sex" and see what other sites are doing.

I highly recommend you have your site rated with the RSACi http://www.rsac.org/homepage.asp to comply with things like NetNanny.

Consider a few different ways to describe your site for these pickier engines...

For example:

Counseling for intercourse addictions, self fullfillment, nymphomania, nymphomaniac and adult materials.

As far as your keyword choices... be careful not to use the same word more then two or three times.. some will black ball you for attempted spam. The word sex is a bit over used in your keywords and descriptions. A couple times is enough and saves you room for other words.

Using mispelled words is SMART!

You may also want to sneak in words like "free message forums" etc.

Hope this helps give you some further ideas...
Deb

JOE..

i gotta tell ya, when i saw your first post in this forum, I thought this was some joke! *sorry* I will tell you why. SInce we all so frequently use handles online, i looked at yours as well as your post. And your name first looked to me like this.. JoeZy Chik .. and I thought oh boy, one way to get attention.. but, I went to your site because i saw two more posts from you here and Deb responded. And I gotta tell ya, I read your conversation with "Amber" .. well done Joe! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

I can now see your point about the search engines and how yours would be misread because of the term sex.. and today, i read a few more descriptive words. I think some people are so used to seeing the word sex online, asssume it is pertaining to porn and feeding sexual addictions.

From what I read about "Amber".. not only are you helping people with sexual addictions you were helping this gal salvage a marriage.

Wishing you great succes....

JoeZychik, I see your dilemna...and would like to throw my 2 or 3 cents in the ring..

First, the word that most fits your topic is the among the most searched words. Perfect..you'll have tons of traffic because of it. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif Although, not necessarily all will be targeted traffic...

I'm confused as to why you think the search engines will drop you, though. I've not seen a site get booted out for using the word 'sex' as a keyword...except when it doesn't apply to the site. You've clearly designed your site to prove that the word is highly important to your topic.

I don't know if I'd agree with going to a Cyber-sitter site to have your page checked out because your site is not a site that many parents would want their children seeing anyhow. It isn't a pornographic site but, in my opinion, it's an adult subject. I would bet many parents would agree.

Also, the general consensus is 7 but in reality most don't count against you for word count.

I'd suggest not separating your keywords with commas so to get more keywords in the character count.

I'd get rid of the revisit...there is only one engine that I can think of that actually responds to that and most others will visit every 3-4 weeks without it.

If you use forums...I'd be descriptive about it...such as therapy forums..

I agree with the misspellings...it surprisingly helps a lot of sites. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Well..that's close to a nickel... http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Hope this helps...

Just checked Infoseek...the one that everyone is usually concerned about...

"Pages containing adult-oriented content may be submitted through electronic mail only"

I'd consider using this method with them. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Hi,
Deb, auteur and hearts.
Please accept my apologies for being so late with my reply. I will spare you the details of why.

After carefully considering your advice and researching it thoroughly below is what I am considering:

<TITLE>SexualControl Counseling for sexual addiction, sex addiction</TITLE>

<META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="Counseling for sexual addiction, sex addiction, masturbation addiction, pornography addiction, sex addict, sexual recovery, masterbation addiction, sex obsession, sexual compulsion,">

<META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="sex addiction, sexual addiction, masturbation addiction, pornography addiction,
masterbation addiction, sexual recovery, sex addict, sex obsession, , , , , , , , ">

<META NAME="REVISIT-AFTER" CONTENT="30 days">

</head>

----------
Sex or sexual is mentioned 5 times (sex 3, sexual 2).
Addiction is also mentioned 5 times.
I kept the keyword list as focused as possible so that the classification would not be diluted.

Yesterday I registered at Yahoo.

Waiting now to hear your opinions.

Also, I am working on an article on how to post to the newsgroups. I've learned a lot because the newsgroups, and the banner ad at aota are the only places I've promoted and I am happy with the results.

This forum has been so helpful to me, I have to pay back. I hope to have it together by Monday the latest and will post it here as soon as it is ready to go.

thanx much,
