Mozilla is really just starting this Yahoo-like search tool called Open Directory Project (just rolls right off the tongue, doesn't it?)
http://directory.mozilla.org/

Unlike Yahoo, there will be link checking to hopefully cull out dead ends, plus there will be a small army of "editors" to make sure that new links are added in a timely fashion. If you'd like to volunteer to be an editor, or even just to check out the capabilities of ODP, point your browser to the link above.

Actually, it used to be called newhoo, I think.. a pun off gnu-hoo... It's a volunteer-run directory project. You can become an editor of a part of the directory that interests you and keep it up to date.

So there once was a version of this that wasn't owned by netscape, but it got bought!

Yes, it was formerly Newhoo..but I understand that Yahoo's lawyers put a stop to that. Their link checker has a good name though - Robozilla

(Sorry to any lawyers on these fora)

Most of the time, lawyers suck.

Sometimes, I think if lawyers were restricted to outright cases of contract violation and violation of the law, such as physical acts of violence and crime, we'd have a much friendlier world.

(OTOH, I know lawyers can do good things too.. I'm just disillusioned with the 'corporate lawyer,' that symbol of the greed and selfishness of corporate America.)

Don't get me wrong.. I'd love to be rich and have a multimillion dollar company. But I believe a company can still have a soul. Most don't nowadays.
