Okay. There's this place, http://www.zzn.com/ . Anyone can sign up with them (it's free), and you can give away free email services through them. You choose a username to sign up with, and then anyone can get web-based email at theirname@yourname.zzn.com

I signed up, just for the heck of it. Doubt I'll get any takers, but what the hey. I'm not exactly sure how these guys are making money yet tho, all they require is that you put two buttons on your site (one links to them, the other links to yourname.zzn.com for people to sign up under your subdomain email thingie).

I guess the whole theory behind this is that you can increase traffic by offering free email from your site to the general public.

Well, I've been tinkering with the thing for a bit, and figured out some stuff. Currently it's free, because it's in ultra-beta form (however, if you sign up as a beta tester, it'll stay free when it's out of beta).

It's also currently broken (hehehe) It doesn't seem to want to remember some of the stuff I punch in. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

Hi,
I'm not going to offer free email to users for some reasons.
1) There are too many big players around to get my way of this a bit of attention and I don't want to spend $$$ on ads.
2) If I'll do that, I'll do it myself. It's not a good idea to use a free service for that. Many people heavily rely on email addresses and if they change, it is a real hassle. So the email should be very stable. I'm not sure how long this free-service you mentioned will be online, but imagining the situation of this site going down with 1000 people having signed up from my site is not a good thing. They'll bomb me with email asking where their address is and I can't do a thing as the domain name is already taken.

Very good points Meikel, glad you mentioned them. I found that at about 5am my time, and the brain was a tad fuzzy (hence my thinking it was a swell idea hehehe, I've since changed my mind) http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
