View Full Version : Suggestion for your FQ Manual
HI Alex,
I just took a peek and it is in there.... but it's not prominent enough...
http://futurequest.net/UserManual/General-Info.shtml#Cgi
I will work on making it much more prominent and also adding it to the activation letter, I think we also need a short tutorial on CGI Scripts for aota.net....
Thanks for bringing it up

Thanks, Deb, for the above link. I did, however, find that place in the manual before; but, it said nothing about folder permissions and that is what I think would be helpful for other new users.
I knew that this script would run and I knew, from previous communication with FQ, that there was a simple answer to this problem once I gained enough knowledge to present the right question, I would get a solution from you in short order.
And you were true to my previous experience with you.
My only problem has been, and still is, that I am having to learn , as I go, enough to ask intelligent questions.
Thanks again; you folks are great.
Learning is a task .. that's for sure.
You should see me with the MySQL learning curve.. I shamefully admit that I am 100% lost to date.. but haven't found the right questions just yet... I do know I am learning a whole lot about what not to do *g*
I highly advise keeping these forums in a location where you can find them quickly... everyone here is wonderful with helping each other from the silliest questions to the complex..
Never ever feel like a question is to silly to ask.. it may take us a few posts to pinpoint the area being questioned but with a bit of tenacity there is nothing we aren't willing to try and solve.
It may also help if you add your URL to your profile so that those of us who are more able to offer help via seeing the problem page can head over easily and view the source.
Sounds like you've made some big steps already! There are plenty of people who find installations difficult even if the directions are correct... you've now installed a large script that required some extra steps.. I'd say that's a pretty big accomplishment...
G'job
Deb

In setting up my UBB at your site, the UBB instructions directed me to change the chmod for the cgi-bin filder and my ubb folder to 777. I did that and struggled for several days until 3:00 and 4:00 AM trying to figure out why I was getting Internal Server Errors, Premature End of Script Headers, and 404 errors. It was a helluva frustrating experience.
Finally, it occurred to me to ask about what folder permissions were legal on your server. Armed with that information, my problem was solved in minutes.
I suggest you put something in your manual to cover folder permissions as well as file permissions which is already covered.
If this is already there, please tell me where I missed it.
Thanks
I take it the UBB now works for you then? If so, congrats! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif If not, well, hmmm.... I guess I'll shut up if not then http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
