Hello everyone..

It's the semi-regular, semi-official SETI update time once again.[nbsp][nbsp]

The winners of the January drawing for a free IRM, IRO, or Sub-domain to add to their main account on FutureQuest, are:

Bardware.com
BrickyardPottery.com
JokesPlus.com

(just make a note in the comment section of the order form.. letting us know you were a winner of the SETI prize)

Since the last winners were announced here, we have gained three new members. Two things to say about that:

1. Welcome all, and thanks for joining the team.
2. Come on now.. we can do better than that!

The team still has an eye on the Top 10, (we are currently at #17) so if you know anyone interested in joining us.. send 'em on over! (and while you are at it.. fire up all of those machines, because we need someone to give our
resident geek...er...I mean.. sysAdmin, some friendly competition). :P

You can view the Top 100 teams here:

Our SETI Team results are here:

Thank you again..

heh you know it's out of hand when I find myself depressed when I see the kids playing educational games on their computers.[nbsp][nbsp]See SETI doesn't have the resources it needs to run when they are doing that.[nbsp][nbsp]http://www.aota.net/images/smile/mad.gif

I keep my frustration on the inside though... I don't want to discourage them but the obsession is out of control![nbsp][nbsp]TeRRa should share his packets with us!!!

I see you've tried to encourage them by changing the SETI team leader to "Deb and kids"! It's going to take more than that . . .

I'm sorry to say, I took SETI down. I ran it for a month or two. But then, after I got to around 70+ packets, the processing really seemed to slow down. I even upgraded to v. 3, thinking they might help, but it didn't.

When I first started out, it took around 33 hours to do a single packet. And as time went by, they were dropping, to 28, then to 26 and I think it eventually got down to 23 hours for a packet. Then, for some inexplicable reason, it started taking between 100 to 200 hours to do a packet.

Plus, I started running a mail server and mailing list off of my home machine, and I just decided SETI had to go. :(

Today was the switchover day from 3.0 to 3.03 (the day when all results from earlier clients are discarded if you haven't upgraded yet.)[nbsp][nbsp]

To make a long story short, I finally upgraded, and it now takes 1.5x as long as before...

I'm not sure how some could take 100-200 hours though... unless you were running with the screen saver on or the UFO was parked right over your house :)

Hey, I'm at 554 now :) (and I can use my stats as extra justification for why I always build dual processor machines, in addtion to "well, they are cool".[nbsp][nbsp]And the old dual 200 has now run for another 6000 hours for which otherwise it would just be sitting there.[nbsp][nbsp]Onward and upward...)
