View Full Version : FQuest Announce: We'll Miss Him
We have recently been informed that Justin will be exploring some opportunities that have presented themselves outside of FutureQuest.[nbsp][nbsp]In order to pursue these opportunities to their full extent, Justin has made the difficult decision to resign from FutureQuest.
We all wish Justin the best of luck, and we hope to hear good things about his progress with these other ventures!![nbsp][nbsp]
I do understand, that even though Justin will no longer be servicing FutureQuest as part of the staff he does intend to remain a part of the community (where he belongs!) for a long time to come.[nbsp][nbsp]
As such an integral part of FutureQuest, and a dear friend to many of us, I feel it is appropriate that we take some time to thank him for the many wonderful things he has accomplished for us all.[nbsp][nbsp]He was worked with FutureQuest since its infancy and many things have been able to succeed because of his efforts.[nbsp][nbsp]So if you have ever used your CNC, contacted tech support, or asked a question on these forums, then you have used something that Justin has helped to create.[nbsp][nbsp]Please let him know how you feel about it.
We love you Justin…and we wish you the best!!

I too wish Justin only the best of luck.[nbsp][nbsp]He has helped me out many times, and will surely be missed.[nbsp][nbsp]I know it takes a great deal of patience to answer all the questions those of us not so technically gifted come up with, and his answers have always been right on the money.[nbsp][nbsp]
May things work out well for you, Sir.

Wow, I am shocked, and sorry to hear this. Of course, he'll still be around (here in the forums), so that is very good. At least we're not saying "Good-bye". And, with all of the talent that Justin has, I can hardly say that I'm surprised that opportunities are beckoning.
Best wishes, Justin,
Sheila
Please accept my best wishes for your future, Justin - and thank you for all your help and patience in the past.

I didn't realise that staff were allowed to resign.
Someone must have made a really good offer for you to persuade Deb and Terra to let you go!
Good luck

Justin-
You were the reason I signed on with FutureQuest.[nbsp][nbsp]Though I did figure that with all the recent new additions to the staff, perhaps you were going to be exploring other things.
I wish you all the best!

PS:[nbsp][nbsp]Maybe you could make the invoices a little less confusing at your new job :P
I have known Justin since he was "just another site owner." :)
Justin's strengths are his deep application development skill and his ability to learn quickly so that he is also strong in all areas of IT/IS infrastructure also.
I have always enjoyed the benefit of using Justin's comments and opinions as a "sounding board" for my own philosophies and technical understanding of many subjects.
Good luck in your new initiatives, Justin!!! I'm glad to hear you will still be lurking around, too.

Dang, sorry to see him leave as part of the staff.[nbsp][nbsp]And agree with others, glad he's still stuck at FQ in some manner. ;)[nbsp]
Hey Justin..
It was around the same time that you and I first came to FutureQuest.. (as site owners), and I have watched you excel in so many areas, that I could only imagine the time you were spending, absorbing the knowledge you have now hoarded (cause it was making me tired!)
This is obviously not a eulogy, it is a birth. ;)
Best of luck to you.. in all that you can, and will do.

What big news... I don't know what to say. I mean, Justin will still be here for all of us to annoy and joke around with he just won't be as obligated to post. My real condolences go to TeRRa, Deb, & their team for their loss. :)
Best of luck, Justin. We're glad you're going to advance in your career and stick with the forums.

Wow, this was unexpected......
Uh, Justin, what exactly are these opportunities?
You realize, of course, that if we find them insuffecient cause for leaving, we will be forced to hurt you...[nbsp][nbsp]>:]
Justin you will be missed terribly.
I not only have received help and guidance from Justin as a site owner but also as an Employee of FutureQuest.
Justin has been a tremendous help to me in the Support Desk as well as before, with problems with my own web sites.[nbsp][nbsp]I have learned from him, and I for one, certainly hope to learn more, through his interaction in the Forums, in the future.
I have also had the pleasure of meeting Justin in person and he is, well there just aren't any other words than, A Great Guy :)
Justin I wish you the Best of Luck (though I believe he will make his own Luck), you deserve it.
See you in the Forums[nbsp][nbsp];)
Bob

Wow -- so many kind words![nbsp][nbsp]As was mentioned, I'll still hang out on the forums. The forums were one of my hang-outs before I was hired (and were in fact one of the main reasons I was hired), and I'll still be here. I couldn't bear the thought of placing my personal sites anywhere but FutureQuest ;)[nbsp][nbsp]
For those who remember, I had signed on as a site owner almost 2 years ago. I have learned so much from FutureQuest, both from my work here, as well as from everyone here in the forums. The forums have become part of my daily routine, and will continue to be. The only difference is that I can speak as a site owner again :)
I believe I am leaving all of you in very capable hands :) Bob has done very well in the Support department in my opinion, far beyond any of our expectations. He truly fits right in with every aspect of the job -- thanks to him I saw very little of the Support box as of late.
Everyone at FutureQuest has been a pleasure to work with, and on many levels I will truly miss my work here. Though I do need to move on to other things at this point, I truly appreciate the entire FutureQuest community for all I have been able to experience and learn since I've been here :)
So I will end this post with a simple Thank You to the entire FutureQuest Community!

Who was there when I asked my bonehead questions like, "What good is a database?[nbsp][nbsp]And why do I need six?"[nbsp][nbsp]Justin of course.
If it weren't for him and his extensive programming and hacking knowledge, honestly, how many of us would know the following?
1) To remember to include error checking on any and all text fields in your PHP scripts,
2) To always purchase a Turtle Beach Montego II sound card for your system because of its excellent reproduction and recording of digital sound,
3) That its possible to hack up your vehicle with its own mp3 jukebox,
4) That TiVo runs off a version of linux and can be hacked up to infinity and beyond,
5) That there isn't a better PHP ad rotation script currently available, and that,
6) He has an amazing propensity to ramble off topic and always end up self-referencing himself?
I've only been here a year or so, but I have to say I've always appreciate his time and enthusiasm, be it in technical support mail or in the forums.[nbsp][nbsp]I've benefited greatly from his advice and knowledge in several area, most notably PHP, and have respected his often contrary point of view in other areas.[nbsp][nbsp]He's always been challenging, informative and stimulating, and it's been a pleasure to have been part of FutureQuest during his time there.
Thanks for all you offered Justin.[nbsp][nbsp]FutureQuest and fellow users like myself benefitted greatly from your time.[nbsp][nbsp]May you find your new opportunities to be as challenging, fun and worthwhile as you did at FutureQuest.
Good luck, Justin!
Your 3000+ postings here have been no end of help.
And the odd time I've asked for support, your reply's been spot on (even if I didn't realise it at first!).

Shalazar has me pretty much pegged all the way. Deb always proves that I'm predictable, even though I insist I'm very much spontaneous. Why, just yesterday I put a Turtle Beach sound card inside my TiVo -- not the home TiVo, but the car one, that runs a newer Linux kernel and a PHP front end (complete with banner ads). Or maybe that was just a dream... :P
On the bright side, I don't have to go off topic to turn the conversation to me in this thread :P

That car/tivo thing is pretty cool, Justin. Can you attach the output to your carb so that clicking on the banner ads power the vehicle? :)

...the car one, that runs a newer Linux kernel and a PHP front end (complete with banner ads).
If this did exist, you could have a mercury switch installed so that anytime you hit the brakes too hard, the banners would come up for various car insurance companies: if the sensors detected you actually HIT something, you'd get body shops and "Have you been in an accident?" lawyers.
That being said:
Justin, my first experience with FutureQuest's legendary service was when, on a Saturday night at like 11:00 as I recall, I requested the password be set for my nice new account's MySQL access, and you sent back a response in something like 20 minutes.[nbsp][nbsp]It might have been less.[nbsp][nbsp]Thanks much and don't stop posting!

Justin, this topic is one of those strange situations--full of both happy and sad news at the same time.
We've seen you both as a site owner and an extraordinarily sharp tech guy, cautious but forward-looking at all times (waaaay forward-looking sometimes!), and always with a nod to making things simpler.
I know that FQ will miss you greatly, but are also heartened by seeing smart people succeed.[nbsp][nbsp]You've been prospering in the FQ environment; now it's time to begin the next chapter in the "Justin" book.
Peace, best wishes, blessings, and thanks for ALL your help.

PS:[nbsp][nbsp]the following domains are hosted at FQ--and it's partially your fault for providing support that I knew I could depend on:

Well, that just takes the cake! How can I dream about Turtle Beach cards and auto jukeboxes without Justin around? How can I spend hours figuring out why a guy would want two monitors hooked up to one machine? Where will I find out about the latest Virtual DJ Stuido release?

Justin, along with being a first rate tech support guy, your forum posts over the past couple of years have been invaluable. I've lost track of how many times I've searched these forums looking for an answer or example for a tech question, only to have your name come up repeatedly on the matching posts. Snippets of your code have found their way into a number of my scripts... so thank you for helping to make my life easier (and my programs more functional). I'm glad to hear that you are moving forward with your career, your skills should take you far. And I'm also relieved to hear that you'll still be with us in the forum, adding to the knowledge base that has become so rich thanks to your generous contributions.

Actually, the forums were always part of my daily wake-up routine, but other parts of that routine started taking more and more time (it's hard to keep up at /. sometimes)... I'll pop in now and then though, as I now realize just how much I am needed around here. Dear Justin,
I was gonna send Deb a private email asking about you. Gosh, I remember us being the first on SIX! You taught me a lot and you were such a wonderful friend. I am very happy for you. I remember the talks we had and how concerned you were about making the move to FQ.
Looks like things have improved for us since we were last in communication. I am nearly sorry that I lost touch with ya, but I was living in the 'real' world for a while and found my happiness.
Thanks for all you did at FQ and I hope the folks that stole you away from here appreciate you as much as we do! ;)
Best of luck li'l bro!
