View Full Version : FQuest Notice: Server Maintenance

Over the course of the next 3 days, I will be working on the servers late at night performing de-tunneling and kernel upgrades...
I have isolated quite a few issues in the Linux kernel that need to be fixed since the servers were installed with multiple network cards and becoming multi-homed...[nbsp][nbsp]
Items being fixed:
1) Problems with the Intel Ethernet drivers were also found, which I believe has now been fixed...
2) ARP's being bound to specific interface instead of all interfaces.
3) Separation of the Cisco and Foundry switch
4) Remove the tunneling code from all servers
5) Reconfigure ReiserFS startup on 5th & 6th Gen servers (PHOENIX/DEXTER/DEEDEE)
You may notice a server going offline after 1:00am EST, to bring the new kernel online - and I will work through each one as quickly as possible...
My goal is minimal downtime (< 30 min), and ensuring that everything restarts without any problems...
Though we realize this may be an inconvenience to some, please bear with us as we are working diligently to improve our quality of service and the commitment invested in providing solid and stable content delivery...

Once again, Thank You for the advance notice TeRRa.[nbsp][nbsp]At least for me that way I won't plan any late night web site updating tonight.[nbsp][nbsp]
Hmmm[nbsp][nbsp]Maybe, just Maybe I'll spend the evening with the wife doing something mundane like watching mindless TV[nbsp][nbsp]:)[nbsp][nbsp]and then going to bed at a decent hour ?? :P
Interesting Concept !

You guys are awesome![nbsp][nbsp]I love that y'all let us know.[nbsp][nbsp]Definately a true sign of residing on the best server on the net.[nbsp][nbsp]I just wish I understood what the heck you are talking about LOL![nbsp][nbsp]I'm really glad y'all are making me go to bed early one night :D
Anyway, I have a question that I'm sure anyone of you can answer.[nbsp][nbsp]What is this "server gaurdian" thing I see from time to time on the cgi sections of my site.

The server guardian basically functions when the server is getting overloaded or worked to hard. Its function is to disable cgi scripts untill it can catch up and get back to normal, thus preventing the server from crashing.

Ok I understand the server gaurdian thing now. Thank you Brian![nbsp][nbsp]This isn't my fault right? *worried look*

What a long night...[nbsp][nbsp]:)
I am wrapping up the upgrades right now as we are heading into the early morning EMail rush-hour...
I was able to complete the upgrades for all but 2 servers, which will be done tomorrow night...[nbsp][nbsp]So at this point, the 3 days planned, will only span over 2 nights...
As a note to Joe, you are cleared for takeoff... :P
