Some have already noticed the new web site on http://www.FutureQuest.net but I want to post about it anyway and inform you all of a few key areas you should take the time to look at...

With everything that happened over the past couple of months I thought we would never get this site up, but we did http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Eric Hines of http://www.winter-rain.net was a key player in kicking our butts in gear on this one. Winter-Rain designed the layout, colors, graphics, etc for the site... w/o his foundations it would probably be another month or two lol... Many have asked me what they are like to work with and all I can say is: Kind, patient, courteous, informed, and talented! They had their jobs done back in Dec I believe... it was me and this need to learn PHP3 that took so long to get the site on-line... I was dead set that it was going to be converted:P

Thank you Eric -- for hanging in there http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Important When you visit the FutureQuest site please visit the CURRENT STATUS! I have added some news in there that all of you need to be aware of!

With all of the upgrades (up-costs) that we are implementing this month we have had to re-evaluate our pricing structures.. and the result is listed within the Status link.

Any questions, comments, feedback etc... feel free to bring them up.... Our goal is keep you all informed ahead of time ...

At any rate -- whatcha think of the new design?!?!?! (Meikel -- I told you that button you had created would match well)

Thanks again Eric and all of you!

Deb
p.s. I worked during sleeping hours on the site.. so any grammar and link checkers out there feel free to critique..thanks! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Congrats on a very neat & slick new website Deb. Price increase is more than justified.

Dean.
ps. Great to hear the news about dumping Sprintlink. Maybe they hould be renamed to 'almostatacrawllink' http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
pps. Are they related to Internic ? http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Well I like the new website design folks. Snazzy! Much more professional looking.

Scary part is due to my Netscape acting funky tonight I've actually seen the new site design on just about every browser now too. Looked fine on all major browsers. Was funky in the AOL built-in IE browser because I found it tough to read the mouseover thing for the bottom menu choices (limited window size thing due to AOL software).

(Been yelling at Netscape for like a half hour now and it doesn't want to agree with me-- seems to think Yahoo is the only working site on the net... http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif Remember now why I don't like IE!)

Okay a price increase huh? http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif Understandable I suppose. Guess there goes the idea of adding another FTP access account for now. (Mainly because of the IRS thinking I must be richer than I am and wanting a heck of lot more money from me http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif )

Sorry just rambling...Don't mind me, because I don't... http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Do what you folks have to provide us with the best server possible. Thanks!

Ok http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

I like it. A few issues, however....

1) Give the side navigation buttons on the side HEIGHT and WIDTH attributes! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif The front page takes forever to load on my browsers without them... and I'm on a T1.

2) FQ name "FutureQuest Virtual Hosting" should be above the informational quotes. Maybe that's me nitpicking, but branding is important!

3) History page- it's under construction, I see. Give an estimate on when to come back. Better yet, don't say the words "under construction," say something like "We'll be posting the story of Futurequest by the end of *reasonable month here*

Plus, a completed web site is a professional web site; a web site that's never updated is a dead site http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif (referring to one of those quotes that came up on the unfinished History page... probably randomly, but it didn't look too good http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif )

4) Why are there two buttons for the forums?

5) Spelling and grammar errors on page 1:

"FutureQuest is different, and we are proud of that fact! Unlike many other Web >presense< providers, FutureQuest builds partnerships with the site owners >, as well as, providing< the ability for the site owners to maximize their sucess by helping them build aliances between each other. "

"presense" is spelled "presence."

", as well as, providing" would be better as "and provides" or "and also provides"

I like the general design, and I do apologize for being so nitpicky. That's what I do, however- user-centered design. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

If Deb/Terra/Winterrain want me to take a closer look at things, I'd be glad to do it privately. Just let me know.

Thanks for the thumbs up on most everything...

The increase prices is NOT something easy to do... but was something that's needed to assure everything happens as it should. "Need more hardware to handle more sites so we need more sites to purchase more hardware so we need more hardware to purchase more sites so we need more sites to purchase more hardware...." ummm see the dilema we were beginning to get ourselves into? I'd like to keep it at "This hardware is used and paid for by these sites." "That hardware is used and paid for by those sites." http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

As noted on the status page -- Those already on the server will *not* have the increase until July if paying monthly .... The March 1st date is the date the new prices will be on the page for new orders...

Thanks Jacob for the input -- some of the easy stuff is now fixed http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

The history page will be done (or at least have some content on it) after I sleep http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Feel free to toss all the spelling/grammar errors at me you want -- something about IRC ruined that area of education for me.

Why two links (and more) to the forums? We are trying *very* hard to get more site owners involved in the forums... it wouldn't matter what pages I put up or what emails I sent out... the BEST imformation about what's happening, why it's happening, how it's happening etc is found in these forums. I've felt since before FutureQuest became public that forums would be the best way to help an enormous amount of people 'get help'. For those of you that do participate it's obviously working http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif There are still a couple hundred site owners hosted on FQuest that have no idea these forums exist. It often times takes oohhhh something like a 13 hour outage... to be able to inform them of where all this good info is http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

As far as the title graphic -- I've been bouncing back and forth with that one... I may move it to the top...like you've suggested....

Thanks again
Deb

The increase prices is NOT something easy to do...

lol...couldn't help thinking...did those sites that wouldn't pay and then expected a credit for downtime now theaten to leave (or not come back) if you raise your rates?

I like the new site but...
when viewing it with dinosaur IE 3.0 - it gets b0rked all over the place. http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif I got "image not defined" errors on the javascript (does it have "stealth mode" aka hide from older browsers?)

The site looks great on nutscape, and on newer IE, i'm sure, but bunches of people still use IE 3.0.

Just thought I should let you know.

Hi,

correct. That JavaScript doesn't work with IE3.

Deb:
You have to surround the initial JavaScript where all the images are loaded with another

if (document.images) {
...
}

statement.

IE 3 doesn't know these Image statements and it will execute the load sequence bumping the surfer into error messages.

I'm far far far from a Javascript guru.. Where exactly would I place the
if (document.images) {
...
}
??

It's on both of the functions.... could you take a peak at the source and point out to me where else I should add it? Appreciate it!

Change your JavaScript to read

</STYLE><SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
//Mouse On Daniel Son
if (document.images) { // Open new if bracket
image1on = new Image();
image1on.src = "/images/forums-butt-on.gif";
image2on = new Image();
image2on.src = "/images/devel-butt-on.gif";
image3on = new Image();
image3on.src = "/images/packages-butt-on.gif";
image4on = new Image();
image4on.src = "/images/resellers-butt-on.gif";
image5on = new Image();
image5on.src = "/images/domain-butt-on.gif";
image6on = new Image();
image6on.src = "/images/faq-butt-on.gif";
image7on = new Image();
image7on.src = "/images/order-butt-on.gif";
image8on = new Image();
image8on.src = "/images/sat-butt-on.gif";

//Mouse Off Daniel Son

image1off = new Image();
image1off.src = "/images/forums-butt-off.gif";
image2off = new Image();
image2off.src = "/images/devel-butt-off.gif";
image3off = new Image();
image3off.src = "/images/packages-butt-off.gif";
image4off = new Image();
image4off.src = "/images/resellers-butt-off.gif";
image5off = new Image();
image5off.src = "/images/domain-butt-off.gif";
image6off = new Image();
image6off.src = "/images/faq-butt-off.gif";
image7off = new Image();
image7off.src = "/images/order-butt-off.gif";
image8off = new Image();
image8off.src = "/images/sat-butt-off.gif";

//Magic Mouse On Daniel Son

image1other = new Image();
image1other.src = "/images/community-over.gif";
image2other = new Image();
image2other.src = "/images/developer-over.gif";
image3other = new Image();
image3other.src = "/images/packages-over.gif";
image4other = new Image();
image4other.src = "/images/resellers-over.gif";
image5other = new Image();
image5other.src = "/images/domain-over.gif";
image6other = new Image();
image6other.src = "/images/faq-over.gif";
image7other = new Image();
image7other.src = "/images/online-over.gif";
image8other = new Image();
image8other.src = "/images/sat-over.gif";
} // close new if bracket.

function imgOn(imgName) {
if (document.images) {
document[imgName].src = eval(imgName + "on.src");
document["Tu"].src = eval(imgName + "other.src");
}

}
function imgOff(imgName) {
if (document.images) {
document[imgName].src = eval(imgName + "off.src");
document["Tu"].src = "images/home-head.gif";

}

}
//End of image rollovers
</script>

I have not tested this code, but that should prevent any Image code to be executed on browsers which do not support the Image object.

If it doesn't work, I'll make a version that does work.

I don't think you need the 'if(document.images){' part for your array, but only for the actual functions.

In other words, where you've got;

</STYLE><SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
//Mouse On Daniel Son
if(document.images){ // Open new if bracket

I'd get rid of "if(document.images){ // Open new if bracket", and the corresponding } below the arrays. Then just use the document.images thing in each of the two functions, just as they are now.

If the document.images thing never works, you may end up having to go with the old, nasty version (if browser.indexOf(MSIE) && version <= 4 kind of thing). You could also try using <script language="JavaScript1.2"> which should (theoretically) prevent anything older than version four browsers from trying to run the JS code.

If none of this works, sorry. I'm at the school again, miles away from my JavaScript books...

Ok... I've added Javascript1.2 to all of the pages and I've also enclosed the script with <!--
and
-->

Does that seem to maybe take care of the probs?

"Microsoft JScript runtime error

Deb,
now it's totally broken.
You have too many &quot; flying around.

Just take a look at my homepage at meikel.com
I'm using nearly the script you are using and I'm having no problems.

You must surround any Image statement with this "if" statement.

No way to go with JavaScript 1.1 or 1.2 here. IE3 will not recognize it and so the onMouseOver functions will be undefined.

I'll have access to an IE 3 browser today and I'll see if I can email you a working script solution. For the meantime I suggest you go back to the first version as it's now broken with IE 4 :-(

I'm using IE 4 and having no problems whatsoever with it... are you viewing the main FutureQuest website that is open to the public? Have you cleared the cache?
