Around 6:10am I had made an adjustment in an effort to shift parts of the /usr/local tree, in order to make room for the new 'pgcc' compiler and libraries for the upcoming PHP3 -Alpha- project...
Inadvertently, anyone using the path '#!/usr/local/bin/perl' for their CGI scripts, would have been affected by a 27 minute outage/non-functional script... http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif
This was an unforseen side-effect, that I did not notice immediately... After alerted to the problem, the changes made were quickly reversed - restoring the /usr/local/bin/perl capability...
In short -- Apache get's really upset if you try to run *any* executable via a symlinked path... http://www.aota.net/ubb/redface.gif
I personally apologize for any disruption that this has caused...
