This message is geared toward Full Virtual Domains hosted on the FutureQuest server only.
All of you should notice a new file that has been placed in your WWW directories. This file is titled '404.html'
Many of you have requested the ability to create your own 'not found' pages rather then have the standard one that was showing up. You have always had the ability to do this via .htaccess files, but for some of you that sounded more difficult then what you were willing to venture into just yet. So we have decided to make it just a bit easier for those of you who would like to create your own 404 error messages.
As long as you have a file in your WWW directory titled 404.html that is the file that will show up if someone reaches your domain but the url they were looking for is not found.
You can replace or edit the current 404.html to your hearts content adding or deleting whatever you like to it.
It's a given that at one time or another someone is going to enter an area of your domain that simply isn't there... It is very wise to offer them a way back into your domain! I've seen some even sell banner ads on their 404 error pages.
At any rate.... the 404.html file is there for you to utilize. There is no longer a need to create an .htaccess file to custimize your error page.
For those who already have or still plan to create their own .htaccess this will not create a problem. Your .htaccess file will override the server configuration of the 404.html file.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Some of you still feel you are not allowed to post to this forum... you ARE allowed to post to this forum.. you simply need the password that was given to you in your Activation Letters. If you do not have this password and do have a site hosted on the FutureQuest/Susogi server, email me and I will give it to you.
Enjoy!
