I've got both Red Hat Linux and Win98 installed on my PC, even my internet connection works. I'm still trying to find out what's wrong with my sound, but its been fun.
It took me 3 days to get my video resolution and internet connection working, and a couple of days to learn how GNOME and KDE work. Now if I can just figure out how to configure X to use KDE as the default interface.. hmmm..
Anyway, anybody else have this combo in place? I'm using LILO for dual booting, and have 2 hard disks, one partioned with Win98, the other with Linux.
Does anybody recommend a good Linux/Unix book resource? I strolled through the Idiot's/Dummy's guide/book to Red Hat Linux, but think I need something with a little more meat.
Thanks

I'm still trying to find out what's wrong with my sound, but its been fun.
There's a sound configurator...[nbsp][nbsp]sndconfig or soundcfg or something similar to that (run 'apropos sound' to search the manual descriptions for it).[nbsp][nbsp]It will have to be run to set up sound.[nbsp][nbsp]
There's a bit of trickery to get KDE to be default that you'll need to play around with - it's documented at the KDE website.
I'm using a setup similar to yours...[nbsp][nbsp]Win95 on one partition, Redhat 6.1 on the other.[nbsp][nbsp]It works fine...
Books I'd recommend:
- Linux in a nutshell (O'Reilly)
- Red Hat Linux Unleashed (Sams)
- And eventually Essential System Administration (O'Reilly)
Keeping an eye on the Linux newsgroups (alt.linux, alt.os.linux) is also a good idea.

Hi Charles, thanks for the references. I edited a file (I think it was startkde or something) a while back to try to get sound to work, but when starting X, it told me a file wasn't found or something.
I initially setup the sound using the "setup" program for RedHat. Sound works when opening it in the mixer, but not when I assign the sounds to a function, like windows closing, etc.
There was a solution specific to my problem on the kde.org site, but what I typed above was the result.
I'll try your suggestion. Its a minor inconvenience, but at least I'm learning about the startup script and where to look for the files.
Thanks.

Found my problem, thanks for the tip Charles. I found the answer at:
