View Full Version : Where is FutureQuest

Maybe I haven't read it yet, but is FutureQuest out of a home? Not that it matters, but I've seen posts from every hour of the day and it's driving me nuts trying to figure it out.
Or are the servers and T1's at another location and you dial in?
Just being nosey http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
Hi Mike,
FutureQuest is world wide :PPPP
I assume you wanted something a little more specific then that though huh?
We are in two locations both about 10 minutes from each other. Our home office we've got a garage that has been transformed into an office and a car angry at us for it *grin* within this office we have six computers operating. The OSs are NT, Win95, Win98, Linux, Win3.11....
We have a direct line into the Server box that is stored down town (lines are cheaper the closer they are to the phone company) where the T1s are located. Within that office is a desk a chair and a pillow http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif
We bounce back and forth between the two... where are we when we post at all hours of the day and night? No one really knows... and if we've been awake long enough we don't know either http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif
Terra has almost completed the AI (artificial intelligence) server and has been testing it on random emails that we receive from you guys *big wide grin*
That help explain it?

ya know you're car will get you back for that. . .
so lemme get this right - ok you have these computers at home - and form them computers they have a line that is connected to the server which is downtown in another location whre your t 1's are? that right?
anyway - like why do you have all them OS's ?
I'm just clueless is all - 'm sure there's so0me useful ness ot that but i have no clue
as usual hehe
Lea
Heh it's already starting... had a flat tire yesterday:P
Yes, you are correct, from the PCs we have here we are able to work on the servers downtown. The main reasons for going to the downtown office to work on hardware and generally keep everything running. If for some reason the server goes down at whatever hour it may be we are alerted and have to hop up and get down there FAST! to bring it back up.
The different OSs are mainly so we can perform the tasks needed at any given time. Linux is for obvious reasons... the rest give us ease of use for various things and allow us the ability to give appropriate tech support depending on what the client is needing help with.
Via the different OSs we can walk through steps with the client rather then going off memory of our experiences...

Ok, I got another question, well actually a few.
First, how did you get started in this and what did you do before you took the plunge and opened your own business? Is it just you and Terra that work at FutureQuest? How did you come up with the name of FutureQuest? Why don't you have an "ABOUT US" page so I don't have to ask you all these questions http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
Well, that's it for now, or until someone else posts something and I get curious all over again http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
LOL Ok.... lesse,
There is a VERY LONG story that answers these questions and a short and sweet story to answer it.. I'm going to go with the short and sweet one for this.. and allow you to wait for me to have the time to write up the long story on that "About Us" page :P
Myself before FQuest - Internet design, reselling hosting space, along with operating a mental health support site.
Terra - "Clutch Man" for a number of Internet and Intranets via Concurrent Technologies... e.g. they called him to fix all the stuff they couldn't seem to get working or to fix the stuff other consultants had come in and broken...
Both of us - Sick and tired of being virtually scr*wed by various companies and of having to work on domains that were setup pathetically. Both of us wanting a better job then what we had and both of us wanting to be able to continue homeshooling the kids and being with them as much as possible...
solution -- FutureQuest something we had both talked about for a few years... then started dreaming about.. and now have turned into a reality.
To be honest we actually wanted the name *VisionQuest* but another company in Japan holds all the legal rights to that name and it is not available via Internic either... so *FutureQuest* it is http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif

ok I was eavesdropping here LOL
Deb that is so neat!!
Sounds like you both have a lot to give http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
Glad you're so successful with this http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
It's always exciting to hear of someone who breaks out of their situation (whatever that may be) and start a new and better way. From what I can tell you are doing an excellent job with this hosting company.
I'm curious about Susogi. Is this laso one of your enteprises?
Thanks Doug, That's exactly what we are trying to do over here http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
Yes SUSOGI.net is a part of FutureQuest... some of the site owners on SUSOGI.net I'm sure you've met right here on the Forums http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif

Cool discussion! You've answered some of the questions I have wondered.
Doug: Susogi.net is great for us pleb HTML-ers that didn't want to conform to a banner-splattering community like Geocities or Tripod (etc etc) but have neither the $$ nor the need for a whole lot of space (we get 10 mg) or for all those over-our-heads cgi and perl and autoresponders and such things that get discussed in the more technical topics on this board. We get a virtual subdomain (ours is susogi.net/Bekariso (http://susogi.net/Bekariso) ) and lots of goodies like POP3 email, guestbook, counters, ssi "file updated", and more stuff I haven't had time to explore yet, for the best price I've seen around -- and no stoopid banner ads anywhere.
Nice to meet you Doug and MikeA!

Speaking of which....
SUSOGI.net is also where I keep my PERSONAL home page... if you really wanted to get inside who "I" am and get the real "dirt" on me you can view it at http://www.susogi.net/DHeart/
I've often feared my 'true self' would harm my abilities in the business... but now that we've been going for a while I am beginning to realize that as long as I accomplish what needs to be accomplished everything works out just fine http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
Happy reading if you're up to it.
Deb
Coming out of her shell...
Thanks for responding Deb and Bekariso.
I have seen your web site as well as many of the other people that voice themselves here. They are all well done. It has struck me how much variety there is out there. I guess we're all different snowflakes. Mine is up and running after several days of major frustration over getting my fonts to work right in Netscape and explorer. I'm going to have to put this FrontPage aside and learn HTML as most of the rest of you are. I had already done most of the work with the FrontPage before I signed on with FutureQuest. I would value any constructive opinions. The address is Dramaquest.com
P.S. I decided upon this name before I heard of Futurequest. The shoe fits well.
Hey Doug,
I think you're doing a wonderful job.. but I already told you that in email http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif
One thing you need to do is change your directory names to something without a space.
The links to your scripts aren't working because of the space on your directory names... Once you change those to non-spaced names it all should work fine.
Hope this helps

hey bekariso -
"and no stoopid banner ads anywhere."
You taking up my spelling habits? hehehe
I never seen ya spell stoopid liek that before - thats the way I always spell it haha
http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif
Doug -
" I guess we're all different snowflakes."
and some of us, like myself, is just "flakes" hehehe
Your site is very well done - looks great http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
WHat I do is use a wysiwyg editor for layout and go back and tweak the raw html - um I just cant get comfy with putting up images using text - hehee I am really like visual that way - but what naturally seemd to happen for me anyway was that the more I leanred - the more i prefered just using raw html for some stuff cuz it was just easier to make stuff just the way I wanted it and insert stuff like ssi and cgi commands and such and configure web ring html codes, etc
it's not too difficult really. it just seems a bit intimidating.
go for it http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif

Wow, didn't expect to see so many posts about this question. Deb, apparently you need to have and ABOUT US page, lots of people want to know about you. I looked and read over your personnal page, you probably would want to shorten it just a bit http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
I think that it's cool that a "couple" (no pun intended http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif ) of people can start a pretty cool business. It helps keep the overhead down and allows you to charge less and offer more.
I got the impression that FutureQuest was kind of knew (as far as most things go), but I think you've got the right idea. Of all the other places I looked at, and I looked at a lot of them, your's is the only place with message forums and with people who seem like the really care. I sent a message to one site and it took them a day to respond, I sent the same message to you and it was answered in like an hour. WOW. That impressed me. It also sounds like you've had a hard life. I like to hear when people can turn things around. Looks like you've got three GREAT kids http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif By the way, what's the ferrits (sp?) name?
It's good to meet everyone here Bekariso, Dell, Sandy and pqwabbit.
My site is www.webauthorities.com It's new and in the works, but take a look if you like.
By the way, Doug, you can eliminate the spaces by using underscores _

Deb,
your story is an inspiration!! http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
In response to Deb's 4pm posting (containing the following);
I've often feared my 'true self' would harm my abilities in the business...
Deb, your 'true self' is why Julie and I know you, which is what led to us choosing FutureQuest http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif

My site is www.webauthorities.com It's new and in the works, but take a look if you like.
It's looking like it is going to be a very valuable site full of good information! I for one am enjoying watching it grow.
Of all the other places I looked at, and I looked at a lot of them, your's is the only place with message forums and with people who seem like the really care.
I think I can honestly say (and have said many times) FutureQuest has got to have one of the best communities on the net as far as hosting goes! When it comes to Web sites we are all 'room mates' sharing a server.. living with an annoying room mate and worse yet having an annoying landlord get's old quick! I am thrilled with the site owners we have gotten on this server so far! You all are a lot of fun to work with, which makes this job a whole lot easier!!!
What keys do I use for making a totally embarrassed face?!
LOL that would be a colon ( http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif with the letter o. Many times it takes someone other then the coder to find the find the errors... that's why it's important to do as you did and ask for other's honest opinions of your site. Some one who will take the time to point out the flaws really cares.. those who simply say 'good job' with out pointing out problems they noticed aren't really much help for anything but the ego. We all have to start somewhere and you're off to a great start!
your story is an inspiration!! and Deb, your 'true self' is why Julie and I know you, which is what led to us choosing FutureQuest
What else can I say but "THANKS!"
Happy HTMLing everyone!

heheheh um it doesnt really stand for anything - cept when we was kids we made it up - its kinda like an exclaimations PQ!!!!! kinda on par with WOW! and it has kinda a strange proununciation er i dunno how to explain it but it was the imaginary sound benny made when he was excited - er heheheh -
I'm niot quite sure like exactly when we started using it or why or how hahahha we have a lot of silly words associtaed with pets :Þ PQ!!!!!
hmm guess putting pq and wabbit together would mean excited rabbit - but like it's a bit more extreme than excited and more short lives - pq is that moment when you're over whelmed with excited ment that ou have to exclaim something
ok i know im totally looped - well that shouldnt really come as a shocker now haha
