Man, today stinks.
It all started with AOL buying Nutscape for $4.2 billion. That got me reading the business section, and I find out that Phillip Morris is bumping up the cost of my smokes by $.45/pack (and it's estimated the retailers will bump it up $.50/pack, just to be mean)! I have to send $712 to CitiBank so they don't sue me, and to top it all off, MTV is running a "My So-Called Life" marathon...
Someone, anyone, please tell me something that will make me feel better, please?

The trailer for the new (old?) 'Star Wars' movie is out! Dum-da-da-dum-dum-dum-da-da-da-dum-dum-dum-da-da-da...
dum-dum-dum-dummmm-da... dum-dum-dum-daaaa-da!
(That was the Star Wars theme, by the way).

At least Microsoft didn't buy it http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
I quit smoking yesterday-don't know which is worse, the withdrawels or the .45 price hike
Sandy-
who would do anything for a marlboro right now http://www.aota.net/ubb//frown.gif
Sandy, I'm not sure where you live, but it's pretty bad here. I live in California. Recently, prop whatever passed which is going to add a (roughly) $.50 tax per pack anyway (starting Jan 1). That was already gonna stink, and now they stuck us with this! In a couple months, Marlboro's are gonna be about $3.35/pack (I'm currently paying anywhere from $1.85 to $2.35 a pack).
Definately time to stop this nasty habit!

I'm in Calif. too (N of L.A.)
I hear ya..it was getting too expensive not to mention that I had pneumonia & bronchitis so I figured it was a sign *duh!!*
WalMart used to sell them for $18 a carton & last time I checked they were already up to $21.50
If I can quit, you can http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif I smoked about 1 1/2 packs a day. I'm trying to find another bad habit to replace it LOL
My wife commented today, it's now going to be cheaper to buy the gum/patch than to keep on smoking! There's something wrong with that...
We're in San Bernardino BTW

Sorry to hear that Del.
Thank god I live in New Mexico where you can still buy cigarettes from Indian pueblos smoke shops (no taxes) and only pay $15 to $17 a carton for name brands. And my favorite generics are like $10 a carton.
Being an AOL member, currently, the Netscape thing is probably good news. Hopefully means AOL's built in browser, currently a scaled down junk of a copy of IE, will improve.

I know it! The gum is terrible btw..I'm on the patch, it's ok but it doesn't stop the "habit" part of it, better than nothing though!

Oh, you have problems http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
Here in germany a pack of cigarettes is $3.05 (calced on current DM-$ exchange rates). And there is no rebate if you buy more than one pack (so a carton is $30.50).
But the cheapest Marlboro I ever bought was in "Dubai Airport" for $7.99 a carton.
I wish everybody good luck in quitting smoking. On my last visit to NY, I stopped smoking for 5 days (just had no chance to smoke a cigarette in all these smoke-free buildings), but did not continue this experience later on.

Armand--
AOL is going to start using Nutscape as it's included browser now, because of this deal. They (AOL) has also set up a deal with Sun Microsystems to buy $500 million of Suns machines and software, and will license Sun's Java language. Because AOL owns Nutscape, Sun and Nutscape are going to work together to make NC compatible with Java. All around it sounds like things are looking up, and someone's finally gonna be some sort of competition to Micro$not!
We'll be sending you money to buy smokes for us http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
Meikel--
That sucks. Off and on we still find good deals on cartons (or did anyway). Most recently there was a 'buy 3 get 2 free' thing, so buying three five-packs ended up being cheaper than buying one carton hehehe
Lea--
Whereabouts are you at? We'll prolly never become generic smokers. Figure we'll quit when our current carton expires (probably Friday). Might keep on with cigars and cloves and stuff occasionally tho.
General--
I need to check in more often! Lotsa replies in here today http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif

Sheesh, all you spoilt Americans (Meikel exempt)!
A few years ago, before a change of government cut the taxes on them a bit, an average pack of cigarettes was well over $7 Cdn -- and that's when $Cdn was actually worth something. Now it seems any price under $5 is advertised as a good deal. In 3d, I'm too allergic to cigarette smoke to get near enough to smokers to hear much of the gossip or complaints, all I know is from what's advertised.
Best of luck with smoke-free living, Sandy! And you might want to see a chiropractor about that pneumonia and bronchitis you had -- I've had them several times, and the coughing can really put your spine out of alignment. Chiro will probably help with the withdrawl too. If you're interested, you can read our "Why we believe in chiropractic" page at susogi.net/Bekariso/adrachiro.html (http://susogi.net/Bekariso/adrachiro.html) -- I believe in it strongly enough that I'm planning to become a chiropractor myself -- if I can get through the 6 more years of school required. http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif
Gotta go, I'm visiting friends and my hostess wants the puter!

Thanks Beka! I'll go look at that. http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif
Weird cause I rarely get sick & have had pneumonia twice and bronchitis once since July & my 5 yr old has a lot of allergies so that is good incentive to quit smoking
oh yea I went to Canada (Alberta) last year and I couldn't even find Marlboros

Del - we's at Massachusetts - heavy cig taxes here man - lotsa people head north over the border to NH for cigs and liquor - there's huge state stores right over the border hehehe - all booze and cigs cheap compared to what they is over here ucz they aint got no tax.

All this talking about smoking is giving me a pressure in my chest.
The govn' keeps taxing those smokes to "save the children". The last thing they want you to do is quit smoking. If you do that who will support all the new money spending programs?
By the way, how many fewer children are smoking now that Joe Camel is gone? Hmmmm, I wonder.

well.. i wonder if I can screw this up? *LOL* Originally I came here to check out what this place had to offer. DEB told me to! *giggle* AND THIS ONE FILE cracked me up!I think I am gonna print this one out.. still laughing! Anyways.. I might be joining ya'll here... if I am not too intimidated by all the technical stuff that I need to learn. Hope your days are better now! Although..the price of cigarettes will not get any better... Nutscape is still owned by AOL.. but look at it this way.. MTV shouldn't still be having that "My So-Called Life" Marathon. *LOL* Take care... here is to getting to know ya's! *hugs and smiles* ~Hearts
Hey. I quit smoking over 10 yrs ago. When I quit, I decided to continue to sacrifice the money I usually used to buy smokes and put it in an account to save. I was only able to keep that up for a short time, but....Well, it's food for thought for you guys.
Hi Hearts, Don't let the techincal stuff intimidate you....I have a page on Susogi that has well over 100 pages and is 54 Meg on my puter. I haven't written one line of code. Don't have a great desire to learn code and don't want to...lol. I have been asked by a friend to develope a web site for min and have done so. He is well pleased with the outcome. I use MS Publisher and the tools available from SUSOGI. Seems to be all I need. I haven't even had to bug Deb too much.
Join in, have some fun building your own site. If you use Publisher, I'll be happy to help. If you decide to use something else, you will find help with it here.
Good luch to the smokers and the web developers.
John
