View Full Version : Howdy
Just became a FutureQuest customer and will be visiting here often to learn. I've been making Perl scripts for 3 years now but that is the extent of my experience with Linux / Unix. I downloaded Redhat 6.0 last night and am looking forward to installing it this weekend. My only concern is that the PC I'll be using is old and the CD Rom is a Sony that connects to a scsi card and I don't have drivers for the card or CD Rom. Will Linux recognize it for the install?
Thanks,
Duff

It depends on the type of SCSI card you have, and may warrant a new kernel build...[nbsp][nbsp]I'm pretty sure the stock RedHat 2.2.5 kernel already supports a wide range of SCSI adapters...[nbsp][nbsp]If not, then you would have to roll your own kernel with the right modules compiled in...
Once you can talk to the SCSI card properly, the rest will fall into place...

--SCSI seems like such a dirty word--

One sidenote: I've seen a report that the original setup/install routines for RedHat-6.0 (fresh install) are slightly b0rked...[nbsp][nbsp]Check the upgrades section for new boot disk images that should have the fixed code...
Try:
ftp://updates.redhat.com
or
ftp://ftp.redhat.com
Bear in mind, these 2 are usually jammed, so try to find a good mirror...[nbsp][nbsp]I usually use the one at metalabs.unc.edu...
