Hello,

Only my 2nd post so a little background first...

My site started April 1st of this year. I moved it over here May 1st - more professional, own URL, better search engine ratings, etcetera.

The site is a baseball reference manual and currently has 350+ pages.[nbsp][nbsp]Each page has my previous email address - which I still use (and like) on a daily basis. The site gets about 250 hits a day and I receive about 10-20 emails a day as well.

The question?[nbsp][nbsp]Is there a way I can send an automated response to that email address?[nbsp][nbsp]I am leaving on vacation for a week and the computer is staying at home <g>.[nbsp][nbsp]I would like an automated response sent to each person that sends me an email telling them a polite response (thanking them for writing, explaining I'm out of town, and when I'll be returning).

Possible? Impossible? Easy way to do this - time is of the essence as I'm leaving Sunday morning.

Thanks,

Sean

Hi Sean,

If the email addy had been something@yourdomain.com then I could tell yes... very easy by using the Autoresponders we offer.[nbsp][nbsp]But the email address in question is one that we do not host:([nbsp][nbsp]You will need to inquire with worldnet.att.net to see if they offer something like this.

There are also email programs that can be set up to autorespond but of course you would need to be sure your email program was up and running the entire week as well as well as your internet connection to make it work.

Another idea -- See if you can get AT&T to automatically forward all of your mail to somename@yourdomain.com and then you could use our autoresponders to respond to anyone who sent email to that address.

Again if the address in question was one provided by us.. the answer is simple..but since it's not the answer is a bit more complex.. you'll have to see what AT&T can recommend for you

Hi Sean,

One other thing to keep in mind is if you are subscribed to any mailing lists, newsletters, etc. with that email address.

An automated response, "I'm on vaca., etc." may get forwarded to the entire mailing list depending on what the reply to email is....

I've seen it happen and people tend to get upset....

Thank you both.[nbsp][nbsp]Proof that I should be changing the email addresses on a frantic basis![nbsp][nbsp]This is truly the beauty of this so far - a new learning experience almost weekly!

If you have that many pages to hand edit individually, you might want to get one of the file search and replace tools. I have used them before, when I moved a message board and had to change the URLs in a zillion messages.

I went to download.com and searched for[nbsp][nbsp]"search replace". Most of these back up the original file and are pretty easy to use.

One example:
Search and Replace 98 2.21
Exchange text within a single file or an entire HTML directory[nbsp][nbsp]OS: Windows 95/NT[nbsp][nbsp] License: Free
