Anyone experienced with PGP5.0 willing to give some guidance?
I'm trying to use PGP and can't seem to get it right! This is my first attempt at setting this up and I am ever so frustrated!
Specifically I need to have it work with an online order form which then emails the encrypted order. This form works fine until I try to use PGP with it. I'm using Selena Sol's Webstore scripts btw. I have also tried using it with 3 other PGP specific formmail scripts too - just to experiment. The results are the same - sooo, I've come to the conclusion that it's got to be the way I'm setting it up - not a problem with the script(s).
I've gotten mixed results - anywhere from no email, email with no text in the body, to the message “No Data Returned From PGP” in the email text.
Terra and Deb have both been trying to help (like they don't have enough to do) but so far none of use have figured it out.
Have any of you had similiar experiences?
Also when I create my keys on the server PGP does not automatically create a pgp.cfg file in the pgp directory - isn't it suppose to?
Any advice, suggestions and yes even sympathy would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Roxie

Fooey.
I saw the headline and thought I could do something. I don't know much about the command line PGP stuff, but I use PGP 6.0 for a lot of my more private correspondence.
So, anyhow.. I'll look around and see if I can help at all. If I can't, I hope someone comes along who can.
Jake (who just installed 64 megs of RAM in his iMac and is happy =)

In the 6.0 release - latest is 5.0 on Linux OS, have they got their 2.x command line compatibility fully implemented? It seems that this is the glitch on the new PGP 5.0 release, as it uses different command syntax now...
Also, does 6.0 include support for the old RSA keys???
This is *supposedly* handled by the 'pgpo' utility...

Roxie,
When you are at the shell, type this to get full package listing...
$rpm -ql pgp
for only the man pages:
$rpm -qd pgp
What bites is the 'pgpo' (old) 2.6.3 interface isn't implemented - which I believe would have been your magic elixar on this... http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif
Of interest might be for you to:
$cd /usr/doc/pgp-5.0i
then fire up 'Midnight Commander'
$mc
You have used 'Midnight Commander' before haven't you... http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif (if not - it can be your best Linux Telnet/SSH friend, I *highly* recommend it...)

Hi Jake,
Thanks for taking a look to see if you could help! I don't give up easily so wish me luck! Congrats on your memory upgrade! When I make a needed upgrade to my system the smile on my face lasts for days http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
Hi Terra,
Yes I see exactly what you mean about the 2.6.3 interface not being implimented - might have been just what I needed.
I will look into the other info you suggested and will keep you posted as to my progress. Thanks for the tips http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
On a positive note - whether I get 5.0 to work or not I'm certainly getting a crash course on PGP - bound to be of benefit somewhere down the road http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Well, on your question about whether PGP 6 supports old keys... yes and no. It imports old (read: RSA) keys just fine, and I believe it may even send to them, but it definitely won't create them http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif
The commercial version of PGP 6 does in fact still support RSA. I'm wondering whether or not I should upgrade to that.
I have used the Linux/UNIX PGP in the past, because I needed to generate myself an RSA key, but I don't remember those murky days back when I worked for the CIA. Heh, no seriously, it's been a long time since used that, and I think it may have even been a 2.6.x release that I used for RSA.
Anyhow, good luck!
As for command line, since I've got the thing running on the Mac, I've never even seen a command line for it http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
I'd heard they'd changed the command-line structure for unix... made a lot of perl hackers unhappy. I think there's a switch for pgp to use the old-style command line.... pgp -o I think.
But I'll bow out before I get too far into things I don't know!

I have installed the 'pgp 2.6.3i' version onto the server...
To use it, edit your .bash_profile and *prepend* this directory to it...
/usr/local/pgp263/bin
The documentation files are in that tree as well:
/usr/local/pgp263
This will override the /usr/bin/pgp '5.0' version, and should help with your shopping cart script... Beware though, that the 'man' path is set for 5.0 though - I may make some adjustments to delineate the two...
Just make sure to adjust your paths accordingly...

Hi Jake!
CIA hmmm? Won't ask what kind of work you did then...<grin> I don't want you to have to hurt me because I know too much http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
Seriously though - thanks for the info - every little bit helps.
Who knows maybe by the time I've figured this all out I'll become a PGP expert... http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
Terra,
I haven't had a chance to look into this yet like I had planned to - very nearly had a hard disk crash - YIKES! Almost lost both drives completely.
Said a lot of prayers, wrung my hands alot and of course ran lots of diags and virus scans and partially disassembled and reassembled my machine. Managed to get back on track with everything in tack - whew! I think I had some kind of power hiccup - something messed up my IDE controller. Can't say enough about the good habit of having backups, emergency boot disks, diagnostic software and surge protectors.
Anyway thank you for the new PGP install - I'll start working on it asap (after catching up on some sleep)... http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
I like approaching this PGP thing from a fresh start!
I will keep you posted as to my progress.
Thanks again Terra!
