Adobe has a great program called Imagestyler that you can download from their site. They offer a free trial period. It will create mouseovers that you can paste into your html. Macromedia has a program called Fireworks that does it too. It was harder to use though.

Thanks everybody!
Actually, I suppose I could have done a search last night and come up with those sites you suggested (maybe), but my brain had shut off by that point!
Ah, the trials of helping lils build web pages -- it has to be just so, the first time!
Thanks again!

PS - the edit - I tried out the script but ....
two problems,
one-even though my images are exactly the same size, I'm getting a white space
two-why does the image have to be a link? why won't it work if you don't "a href" the mouseover????
help?

Okay, I finally found this thing. I knew I'd seen it before, but couldn't remember where... Anyway, here's the Website Abstraction Mousover Whipper!
http://wsabstract.com/mousewhipper/index.htm
Just tell it what two images you want to swap, hit the button, and there's the code.
