I'm moving a site from another hosting co to FQ. They have a couple of existing email accounts they use regularly via the old hosting site's webmail page. They have saved lots of their received email there on a POP3 account. How can we move their email folder(s) to FQ so they don't lose their old correspondence?

The account is set up on FQ, and I'm switching the DNS to point to FQ in a few days -- their old hosting service expires in a week or two.

One comment -- much as I love FQ services, I looked at their old hosting co's webmail service (name on request) and I have to say it is pretty slick as webmail goes -- they can log in as "mail.theirdomain.com" and get the webmail page (not a home page as seems to happen at FQ), and the layout and services look, well, more like a standard email program. These people travel a great deal and webmail is their primary email access method. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jack

Hi Jack,

The following contains some options that may help with the webmail issue:
http://service.FutureQuest.net/kb207

There is also the option of installing SquirrelMail (http://www.squirrelmail.org/) locally on the account, which would allow you more options in customizing it to suit your preferences. (FutureQuest's QuestMail (http://QuestMail.FutureQuest.net/) is based on SquirrelMail (http://www.squirrelmail.org/).) Here are some past discussions on this to get you started if you're interested and haven't seen them yet:

Thanks Melissa,

Sorry I didn't get back here to confess that I checked the FQ KnowledgeBase after posting this question... my bad. There I found answers to my question concerning the use of domain names in a webmail address.

I'll peruse your other references as soon as I dig out from current unrelated webmaster headaches. Again, thanks...

Jack

Melissa,
Wow! Lots of great info! Trying to get my people off AOL and onto our own email addresses, but after playing with Thunderbird and Mulberry for a few weeks, I just dont see rolling those solutions out to multiple users. About the last role I want to deal with right now is 'postmaster', but that seems to be where I'm headed. If I choose to do a separate SquirrellMail install, any advice regarding anti-spam - preferably with 'learn' and/or bayesian capabilities?

Thanks.... Michael

Hi Jack,

Don't say that in the airport! :rasberry:

Believe it or not, in a former life I taught graduate computer science at a local university. I hate formality, so my students all called me "Jack". Some years later, I was boarding a flight at the San Jose airport when a former student saw me and shouted "Hi Jaaaaaa.... errrr... Professor Armstrong!" Got some strange looks, but not arrested.
