i never used to have a problem ftp'ing from my computer. then i got a new computer and although the ftp function allows me to access the site, i can no longer drop and drag files from my computer into my futurequest site.
i'm thinking the problem is an internet explorer issue (i'm using the newest version) or an operating software issue????
if anyone can help, i'd greatly appreciate it as the only way i can upload stuff is to put it on a disk and upload it from someone else's computer.
thanks.
Rather than using IE, which is a Browser and not really designed for FTP, how about installing a dedicated FTP client.
One I found recently and am personally using is CoreFTP LE

FREE (still one of my favorite words) and very effective for me.

Another popular ftp client is Total Commander (http://www.ghisler.com/). This is a shareware program, $34 US for a personal license, but I like it.

I know someone who had this problem a few weeks ago, and it was a great way to get them to install an FTP client instead of using the browser.
However, there are situations where I need to tell someone how to upload a file quickly, and it's nice to be able to do it without having them get and install any software.
There is a workaround for the IE bug - I couldn't find it now, but it involves changing the settings so that the FTP site opens up a new window, instead of showing up in the existing browser window.
The easiest thing to do is to type the "ftp://...." URL into the address bar of the Windows Explorer file browser (manila folder icon).

WinScp (http://winscp.net/eng/index.php) is a often-recommended free program for secure SFTP/SCP and now it has regular FTP too. The developer is such a non-nonsense guy I didn't think he would give in and meet all the requests for FTP but now he has.

Thanks Tom E. - - You have hit the nail on why I need an answer to the IE question, I am trying to have someone else send some files to the site and want to give him an easy answer rather than downloading the client ftp. So, if anyone knows the workaround for the IE bug, I'd appreciate it.
And thanks to everyone else regarding the free client ftp, at least that will resolve the problem on my computer.

The various workarounds for drag-and-drop (one using internet options advanced, one using page menu, one using batch file) are here:

IE7 did this is prevent a security problem that involved predicting the timing of the user's drag'n'drop or something AFAIK.
Also if the files are small, under a few MB, you could whip up a PHP web form. Not exactly drag and drop though.

I found the workaround in an email I sent, though I probably got it from one of the links kitchin posted.
Here it is:
From the IE menus, make sure Tools-->InternetOptions-->Advanced: "Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)" is checked
Create a shortcut on your desktop - in XP, you right-click on the desktop, then select New->Shortcut (I haven't taken the Vista plunge yet, so I'm not sure if it's the same)
For the item location (commmand) enter: explorer ftp://ftp.YOURDOMAIN.COM
Name the shortcut something like f "FTP YOURDOMAIN.COM"
Double click on the new shortcut and you should be able to login
