safest way of developing?

Just curious as to some advice on where to test out my pages. Is it best to create a testing folder and put all my pages in there, so nobody else can stumble upon them while im testing? I have to do alot of database and scripting work on this website, and im just wondering how to go about testing without having to worry about people coming across my pages and messing around.

Any advice is welcome!

Best option - on a local test computer (not at FQ)
Other option - in a password protected folder in your FQ account
