Any recommendation on blog software for a non-profit organization that will work at FQ? Requirements are that it allows multiple people within the organization to post (but not others), include RSS feed, and have decent spam control and/or moderation capability. Thx.

I think wordpress is pretty easy to use and setup. It's vulnerable to comment spam but I guess they all are. And it has a built in spam snuffer.

It also has pretty good forum support at their site www.wordpress.org.

I recently read a review of the major blogs, I think it was at www.techsoup.org, and WordPress came out on top for our needs. It has a quick, automated install and works nicely.

Ah, I found the review here (http://www.techsoup.org/learningcenter/webbuilding/page4998.cfm): "Seven Blogging Tools Reviewed: A detailed look at the top blogging tools and key considerations for nonprofits."

I like (with qualifications... ) ExpressionEngine and concur with the article's assessment of it. The group that wrote the article, Idealware.org, has some terrific pieces for non-profits.

Wordpress!

We are running five of them now on FQ. Easy install, Good Spam control. Use the new widgets, makes updates simple and configuration easy.

All are not for profit sites. Some to visit if you like.

I will cast my vote for MovableType 3.3

http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/

It's easy, quick, offers widgets, has tags, all out of the box with minimal set-up.

In addition to my post above, I should have mentioned that, with Movable Type, users can use pre-existing designs at Styecatcher. It's very helpful for those who want a professional looking site with minimum effort.

Does Movable Type have good spam control?

One of our wordpress blogs gets quite a bit of spam, over 16,800 in one and one half years! Spam Karma has caught all but 4 spams and it showed me those to approve. I have had only one false positive that I know of in 2 years.

I like MovableType as well. (suprise, suprise!) It is very robust, it can print html (or php or whatever) pages, and it is well supported. I have downloaded and installed Wordpress, and it is quite nice, too. I like MT mostely because I use it as a content management system... Oh, and you can have multiple blogs with one installation (does WP do that?) MT does have some good spam prevention stuff, but I don't use it for blogging, so comments are turned off. But, I know they have it and people use it.

I think either one would be good for your needs.

These sites are running on MT (the whole site, not just a blog)

Thank you all. WordPress was deployed and appears to be working well.

Looks like we've had some good suggestions posted here; feel free to keep them coming as others may benefit as well.

Hi,

Just to add to Evoir's comments, I was away for a couple of days and received plenty of spam, all of which landed in my spam folder. So yes, it Spam control is very good.

Kevin
