Hello All,
We are finally getting ready to move our forum group from yahoo over to a vB at FQ, and are looking for help to set up the vB with PhotoPost Gallery.
We are very impressed with the set-up and functionality of the FQ forums, and because vB is used by many here, we thought we should ask here first.
We are not looking for anything fancy in presentation, but want to present an uncluttered, efficient forums board, and for it to be as easy to use as possible.
We are not computer proficient, or I should say that my partner, Carole is steps ahead of me, and I am hopelessly lost. I have far too many responsibilities as a visionary, content provider, admin, editor, facilitator, mediator, user representative, and artist/craftsperson, (if I could just find the time anymore!).
We would like some help, in that if we have some things done for us, that we could have some procedures explained to us, so that we can eventually learn to do some of these things ourselves.
Before I explain further, I need to say that we have very limited available funds - currently a matter of a few hundred dollars at most to work with.
If it makes any difference, we are developing our site as a free information/educational/resource network though we are envisioning down the road of utilizing different possible approaches to help fund this.
Also we are (strangely) the first and only so far on the www to present this specialized and much-needed service, and you will feel good about being part of it's development!
Here's some features, in no particular order, that we are in need of:
1) -a simple worded vB Forum Header template - Bamboo Arts and Craft Network providing a link to our website at the top.
2) Buttons (to our website) also located with our Forum template.
Carole's trying to figure these two out at the moment.
3) - similar monitor sizing (FQ opens nicely on our small (12") monitor - this is necessary as many of our international membership have lesser means, and will probably be using small monitors for some time.
4) - a `Today's Active Topics' Button
5) - We like the `View New Posts' centered as FQ has.
6) - Removal of (visible) member post count. (posts here will be based on quality rather then quantity)
7) - Remove posts rating
8) - to help with the forum page separation and presentation of categories.
9) to help us abide by whatever is necessary for the site to operate in conformance with FQ and to do whatever has to be done that enables the forums/postings to open quickly.( we've checked out numerous vB sites, and some function like molasses)
10) We don't really need avatars, and therefore are wondering if the Name/Location and Date of posters could be at the top of messages, thereby removing the left side column and having the message appear across the whole screen.
11)(separate issue) Carole is learning html and will have our basic website presentation up shortly (cross fingers) We would like some website development advice
12) enough already!
