View Full Version : How good is Futurequest as a host
Salmon

We are thinking about hosting our site with FutureQuest so I wanted to get some opinions on how good these guys are. Our site will be heavily PHP and MySQL oriented, and we expect to have a fairly hefty amount of traffic (don't we all ;-) ). If people who currently have sites hosted by Futurequest could post their opinions I would be most thankful.

If your looking for the BEST Hosting solution there is then you have found it![nbsp][nbsp]:)
FQ means everything they say about support and up-time.[nbsp][nbsp]I had to move something like 20 sites when my old host folded and I was dreading the whole concept, you know like buying a new car, anyway,[nbsp][nbsp]NOW I am Soooooo Happy that I had to move and that I found FQ.[nbsp][nbsp]
The staff is always on-top of everything, their response to downtime is just fantastic and if you need some support for a server related question, they always respond with-in an extremely short time!
The forums add a dimension that I have neve encountered before, with the Staff and other Members helping each other with all kinds of problems.
This is the Place to Be!!!!!
Good Luck

What Wolfstalks said!!!
I've been here for a year and am very satifisfied. This forum says it all, but I'll add a bit more anyway.
The people that are Futurequest are quick to respond, open, honest and sexy! Well, I'm not sure about the last one, but I needed one more adjective to make a string of three.

Don't think about it just do it. I've only been with them for a week and I'm already astounded at what they have to offer, just look at their site. I had a very bad experience with a couple of clowns before coming here, and was recommended to come here by my brother who also has a site here. He was always saying how good FQ are and how you get a response to any problems quickly, politely and in a friendly manner. And who else has a forum like this for their customers, they are brilliant!
FQ are more like a family than just a firm out to grab your money. Don't delay sign up today. You will not regret it.

I've been here for less than a year, and I doubt there are any other webhosts who are as quick to respond; who are providers of such a wonderfully supportive community (made up of their clients); who notify you of any problems in advance; and who are just a great bunch of people to be associated with ;)[nbsp][nbsp];)...FQ is the BEST ;) !
There...now I feel much better ;) .

Salmon,
This truly is a business/community. You didn't really need to start this post to find out how great it is here. Everything is up front and public.
Our last terrible host had all these glowing 'customer testimonials' on their home and order pages, then locked everything customer and reseller-wise behind closed doors. If anyone could see our former provider's customer forums before they ordered, there would be no new customers.
Here, WYSIWYG. Check out the new Support Desk. Poke around these forums. Puruse the FAQs.
And yes, PHP/MySQL/PHPLIB is what brought us and all our sites here.
To convince yourself that FQ could be your provider, think of any and all tech support questions you might expect to need answered if you were to move here. Like me, you will probably be most impressed that everything you need to know about your configuration, server set-up, etc. is all right in front of you in FAQs, forums, and the new Help Desk.
For us, the decision was easy and we are very happy!
Hope this helps,

I can only endorse everything that has been said previously.
What you see is what you get, support response is brilliant, I sometimes think Deb or Justin know what I am going to ask before I email !!
Lots of online support, written in plain English and easy to find.[nbsp][nbsp]I am based in London UK but you wouldn't know it with the speed of the servers, everything works....fast.

Ditto.
I've had my sites on FQ for over a year and have been very pleased with the service and support. As a website designer I have the "opportunity" to work with other providers (the ones my clients choose) and have yet to find anyone who even comes close to FQ. In fact, FQ has spoiled me, I've actually come to expect answers to simple tech support questions and a few basic features.

I have been in this industry for a long, long time.[nbsp][nbsp]I am not happy one bit with their service.[nbsp][nbsp]In fact, I'm thinking about giving Tripod a shot again; they were 100x better than Future Quest.
I haven't been here for very long (January), but anyone who has read any of my posts knows that I didn't mean one word of the first paragraph.[nbsp][nbsp]Just trying to avoid the "cookie cutter syndrome"... ;)
Now for the REAL answer:[nbsp][nbsp]When I was looking for hosts, I had a few initial concerns, which I emailed the final 4 companies that I had narrowed it down to about.[nbsp][nbsp]Two of the four I'm yet to hear back from, one got back to me three or four days later, with a very rude, and almost unintelligible response, that didn't even answer my question.[nbsp][nbsp]FQ on the other hand, I received an email response within an hour that was polite, courteous, clear and concise.[nbsp][nbsp]Needless to say I signed up with FQ as soon as I had the opportunity.
I have never experienced such good service from any company in any facet of my life.[nbsp][nbsp]Not only are they there to give you top notch service, but it seems as if they get satisfaction out of watching you succeed.[nbsp][nbsp]Everything that is said in the Flash intro is true.[nbsp][nbsp]I don't know where I would be right now without the Future Questarians and their loyal followers who are always there to provide insight and a fresh perspective.[nbsp][nbsp]Just look at this topic, for example...
I know it is already used, but FQ should adopt this slogan:
"why wouldn't you?"

[nbsp][nbsp]It's all true. Can't say there are never problems,
but realistically you can't ask for better, I think.
[nbsp][nbsp]You can always start here and move later if you
want, but I doubt you will. I'm signing up for
another year next month and have recommended
FQ at others at work.

I suppose you could call this a vote of support for FQ by deductive reasoning...[nbsp][nbsp]I have the dissatisfaction of working on a site hosted by a company I used to host my site with.[nbsp][nbsp]I recently sent them an email, and was quite surprised to get a quick response.[nbsp][nbsp]However, the usefulness of the response(s)...[nbsp][nbsp]The conversation is included below for everyone's enjoyment, with the names of the host and tech supports removed to protect the, uh, innocent...[nbsp][nbsp]For best results, read bottom to top:

p.s.[nbsp][nbsp]When I hosted my site with them, SSI worked just fine...
Dan, their closing should have read: "If you have any more questions, feel free to e-mail us so we can sidestep the issue and insult your intelligence."
A few days ago I was checking out a new client's hosting service to see what they had available.[nbsp][nbsp]Their Basic level account costs $25/mo plus a $40 set-up.[nbsp][nbsp]Disk space and e-mail are comparable to an FQ Basic account, but the bandwidth is limited to 1 Gb/mo.[nbsp][nbsp]CGI and access logs round out their "feature list."[nbsp][nbsp]Slim pickings for the price.[nbsp][nbsp]I wanted to see what their advanced packages offered but was greeted with 404s, this is not an encouraging sign. Some of their pages are "under construction"... with a copyright notice of 1998, guess they have been working real hard to get their site competed.[nbsp][nbsp]I'm praying I can convince this client to jump ship to FQ before the serious work begins. *sigh*

Tom,
The only problem with that is it would have been far too informative and accurate for their style![nbsp][nbsp]Is there such a thing as truth in advertising when it comes to web hosts?[nbsp][nbsp]Has anyone ever tried enforcing it?[nbsp][nbsp]That's like selling a car and saying that it comes with tires.[nbsp][nbsp]Of course, the tires are not mounted on the wheels and we're not going to tell you where we hid them or how to get the car down from the hydraulic lift...
Sure makes you appreciate the clients that sign on with FQ, doesn't it?[nbsp][nbsp]:)

I don't understand why some hosts seem to go out of their way to be evasive, sometimes the honest approach is really the path of least resistance.
I've thought about this a lot since switching from MindSpring to BellSouth Net for an ISP (BS.N offered ADSL in my area before MSPG, that's the only reason I switched). MSPG may not be perfect, but they had always been upfront about technical problems, at least during the three years I was with them. BS.N on the other hand treats their tech problems like national security secrets, first they deny there is a problem and then they say as little as possible (totally useless canned alert messages). It infuriates their customers, we can accept that there will be glitches with new technologies such as ADSL and IFITL, but we'd really like to know that they are on top of the situation and doing something about it. That's why I don't stress out when an FQ server goes down, I know TeRRa is on it and won't sleep until he gets the problem under control. That's one guy providing better service and info than a multi-billion dollar corporation with a huge staff. BS.N could learn a lot about customer satisfaction from our wonderful admin... and the lack of a stifling bureaucracy.

So are you saying BS.N is usually just b.s'n you when it comes to problems?[nbsp][nbsp]:P
LOL @ JoeRT
Tom brings up a good point though, not just with technology but business in general.[nbsp][nbsp]It's been driving me insane lately!![nbsp][nbsp]All too often I've had to bring up a problem where the company just buries its head in the sand and refuses to acknowledge the issue --- nothing drives me more nutz!!
I, especially after a couple of years with FQ, am *much* more patient when a service rep acknowledges the issue and works w/ me to correct it.[nbsp][nbsp]At the same time, especially after a couple of years w/ FQ, I've noticed that I become more upset when they refuse to hear my concerns more less do anything about them. (heh FQ has taught me a lot).
We all get upset when things go wrong but whatever gave the service industry the idea that hiding the problem would make the customer happier then talking about it?!?!?![nbsp][nbsp]Whether spoken about or not, the problem exists.[nbsp][nbsp]I would much rather discuss and solve then hush and break the relationship![nbsp][nbsp]Sure the company may lose the client over the problem but I'd rather lose them and allow both to move on productively than to keep them a week or month longer only to lose them anyway over hostility.[nbsp][nbsp]If company & client can communicate the problem can be overcome and the relationship made stronger.[nbsp][nbsp]It's common sense imho.
All of us that are running web sites as a service --- heck all of us that are living, need to consider that in many areas.[nbsp][nbsp]Even in day to day communication it's known that it is better to talk than hide.[nbsp][nbsp]
hrrrrmmm I'm gearing up for a fit here hehe.. I think I'll just end this with a "Yep, I agree!" :)

Those of us who are dead are, of course, covered by a different set of rules and can expect the absolute worst in customer service. (Ever see what happens when a zombie walks into a clothing store? The clerks actually RUN from him. What kind of service is this? It's the reason zombies are always wearing torn-up, 70's-ish clothes.)
OK. Perhaps I need to try decaf. :)

Let me begin by saying that I just had my FQ account set up yesterday.[nbsp][nbsp]I only signed up with the Basic package because I wanted to 'feel' out the quality of service FQ has to offer.[nbsp][nbsp]I know now that in a month or two months time I'll be upgrading to a Silver or Gold package (not to mention add-ons like a domain pointer and extra FTP accounts).
My last webhost (WebHosting.com) was hideous.[nbsp][nbsp]They were my first webhost and nearly my last.[nbsp][nbsp]After signing up with FQ last night I'm starting to have renewed faith in customer service.[nbsp][nbsp]FQ had my account up and running in less than two hours![nbsp][nbsp]I arrived home from work, logged on to transfer my domain, filled out the order form and no more than 1/2hr later I had access to my site.
(P.S.[nbsp][nbsp]For those of you who remember, I stated that it took 6 hours last time.[nbsp][nbsp]What I forgot to mention was the six hours included me logging on to NSI, eating dinner while I read the license agreement, checked out the forums one last time and signed-up.[nbsp][nbsp]The actual signup process was less than two hours).
----------------------
The one thing that I'm worried about is that I'll get spoiled with FQ's quality :)[nbsp][nbsp]
I honestly believe that Deb, Justin and others (hey I'm new and don't know everyone) really care about our concerns.[nbsp][nbsp]Just look at how often they post to these forums with informative information![nbsp][nbsp]
I had a very slight problem (missing commands on the Apache server).[nbsp][nbsp]I posted a message on the forums and in less than three hours the problem was fixed![nbsp][nbsp]This kind of problem would have taken over two days at my last hosting company.
If what I've said isn't enough to convince you to join, just read the forums.[nbsp][nbsp]When I was shopping for a provider I came to the FQ forums to check it out.[nbsp][nbsp]I got a very good vibe while reading the posts.[nbsp][nbsp]FQ's customer's are truly happy.[nbsp][nbsp]Everything is upfront with FQ (server status etc).
I'm really going to like it here.
Do yourself a favour and save yourself the hassle of shopping around.[nbsp][nbsp]FQ is the place to be!
P.S.[nbsp][nbsp]I live in Canada and access my site through a cable modem.[nbsp][nbsp]The server is 13 hops away and I get a 90ms ping time.[nbsp][nbsp]Upload and download rates are great - so is the server's response time.

The one thing that I'm worried about is that I'll get spoiled with FQ's quality I don't know if I'm worried or down right scared! :D[nbsp][nbsp]Everytime I think about having to move to a dedicated server the first thing that pops into my mind is "but how am I going to do this without TeRRa, Deb and Justin?"[nbsp][nbsp]:D[nbsp][nbsp]I don't know which will come first, FQ's dedicated servers or my absolute need for one... I hope the former.
